Boomshaka Entertainment artist Tony-O, notorious for their exuberant live performances, has taken home the award for Northwest Music Awards Single of the Year Best Group/Duo.
The 2nd Annual Northwest Music Awards show is an awards show, similar in style to the MTV Music Awards, with the dignity of the Grammy's. The purpose is to acknowledge and recognize the musical talent in the Northwest, (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, British Columbia, and Alaska).
This award, won for the debut single "PhD." (playa hata degree), is another slam dunk for the single meeting national critical acclaim, breaking down the Billboard Rap Singles Chart for 24 weeks straight.
Tony-O has finished recording his debut LP entitled "too much to lose", featuring guest performances by Celly Cel, RBX, Kid Frost, members of Thug Life, Dolemite, E. Dawg and Max Julien (Goldie), which is due out this fall.
Here's what the press have to say about Tony-O and the debut single, PhD.:
"This formula that Tony-O has put together is rather unique, in that he is able, and confident enough, to put down something new and have trust in himself and his label". - RAP SHEET
"This is a funky radio friendly track regarding the very current subject of those who have acquired a playa hata degree. West Coast flavored linguistics over smooth body moving music makes this commercial pick with good 'on air' potential". - INSOMNIAC
"Tony-O from Seattle, has a pretty tight single that has been ripping up the Billboard chats called PhD. (playa hata degree). This song is already getting airplay on many West Coast radio stations and have been getting great reviews". - THE NORTHWEST PHOENIX
"This is the first song (PhD.) I have heard from Tony-O and it should make him famous. It has a very hip hook, it is very radio-friendly because of the catchy hook, it should be receiving a lot of airplay very soon". - BRE WEST
"Taking over the radio throughout the states, Tony-O simply asks, "Where'd you get your PhD."? The smooth-laced vocals encourage your body to move while the booty-bumpin' track sends subliminal messages: "Don't hate, congratulate and maybe you can participate"." - ROOTS

Kung wala na nga (Danita Paner) Album: Promotor Artist: Danita Release on Jan 2007 Label: VIVA Records Composer: J.D. Hernandez/R. (More) Album: Promotor Artist: Danita Release on Jan 2007 Label: VIVA Records Composer: J.D. Hernandez/R. Sarmiento DANITA: BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST FOR 2007 Debut album "Promotor" Released by Viva Records Viva Records proudly introduces its breakthrough artist for 2007 -- the 17-year old rock act by the name of DANITA! Danita's debut release, "Promotor," from Viva Records, will undoubtedly create major stir and appreciation for her artistry and her desire to share her music from critics and fans alike. "I gave my 100% on this album that's why I'm so excited. I'm also very thankful because not everyone is given this kind of opportunity. 'Promotor' is a dream-come-true for me, sobra.", says new recording artist Danita. The first single, "Lunod" was arranged and produced by Mayonnaise frontman Monty Macalinao. "Pag-isipan mo 'yan ang sabi mo pero 'di mo na gusto ngayon / Pagsisihan mo ang sinabi mo na ayoko na sa'yo / Wala namang mawawala, wala ng magagawa, wala, wala...," sings Danita on her debut album." Danita shares, "It's a song of revenge and I think a lot of listeners can relate to it." And radio agrees; the track has connected with audiences. It is now enjoying significant airplay on local radio stations and its music video is now airing on MYX. "Promotor" is a pop-alternative album which speaks of love, revenge, hope, and different emotions wanting to be expressed. "I wanted the music to have a fun, rock and alternative edge. The title of the album came from one of the upbeat songs included in the album written by Sir Mike and Mong of Sandwich.", Danita says, smiling. The album contains 10 tracks with eight songs in Tagalog and two songs in English. Produced by some of today's top-calibers and respected musicians in the local music scene, Mark Escueta and Mike Elgar of Rivermaya, Ney Dimaculangan, Rye Sarmiento and Darwin Hernandez of 6cyclemind and Mike Dizon and Mong Alcaraz of Sandwich, the album was recorded and mixed at Tracks Studio, Birdhouse, The Sweatshop, Digitrax and Amerasian Studio. "Promotor" features upbeat songs and tracks that reflect a variety of moods for a wide range of listeners, and a cover of Prettier Than Pink's "Cool Ka Lang" and Rivermaya's "Himala." Danita's primary goal is that listeners, especially of her age have a blast singing, listening, and at moving to all of her songs. The album showcases this teenage rocker crooning with distinctive vocal, wistful and innocent yet not forgetting to rock it out big time. Musically and lyrically, Danita cites The Veronicas, Cardigans, Switchfoot, Dishwalla, Fly Leaf, Keane, Coldplay, Tori Amos, The Mars Volta, Plumb, Tonic, 311, Dream Theater, Lifehouse, Relient K, Vertical Horizon, and The Smashing Pumpkins among the factors which have influenced her musical style today. Asked what she looks forward to in the future, Danita says, giggling, " That people will like my music and style. It would be great if my songs will climb up the charts and become number one. Eventually, I would want to do an album with my original compositions in it, and syempre, not to forget, I want to finish college din in the future." Judging from the talent and determination this 17-year-old has, we'd say that's a very real possibility. The full track listing for "Promotor" includes the carrier single, "Lunod," "First Love," "Kung Wala Na Nga," "If Only," "Tanong," "Magandang Gulat," "Cool Ka Lang," "Promotor," "Di Ka Makuha Sa Tingin" and "Himala." "Promotor," a remarkably sophisticated album from the 17-year-old rocker Danita is now available at all major record stores nationwide, only from Viva Records. http://www.viva.com.ph/music/index.php (Less)
