ARP Omni Modification demo The ARP Omni paraphonic analog synthesizer is the best seller among Alan R. Pearlman's line of (More) The ARP Omni paraphonic analog synthesizer is the best seller among Alan R. Pearlman's line of products. Built in 1976 it uses a master oscillator and divide down network to produce all square waves that are then waveshaped to create timbres similar to those of Bass, Cello, Viola and Violin supposedly. Two footages for a classic synth bass sound and two an octave higher for the 'synth' which can be further shaped by an ADSR enveloped filter, which can also be modulated from three sources.
This Omni has the synth output jack reassigned as an input though. The signal mixes to the string phaser effect and also has a threshold circuit reading it's signal to decide, by a threshold control, when to send a trigger signal to the bus. Since the attack envelope is also triggered a long attack will result in no output unless the input signal maintains above threshold for a certain amount of time dependent on where that attack is set.
This mod allows the player to interact with the signals sent to the new input in several ways and it's particularly useful in interacting with an arpeggiator. I'll try to post the schematics on http://sounddoctorin.com when I get time. (Less)
