Chanel's parents had been gone, but are coming back home for another dinner party at the Brown's. "I'm so sorry Mark, but I've got to get ready for another dinner party with my parents," Chanel said sadly. "It's fine. I should be getting some homework done anyways," said Mark, "Bye." "Bye." "Chanel, wait. Before you hang up, I wanted to tell you that... I love you," Mark hesitated. He felt like hitting himself after because he would probably just scare her off by saying what he did. "I'm sorry if it's too soon for me to say that." He thought she had hung up because she wasn't saying anything. "I love you too," Chanel said softly, smiling to herself. Mark was surprised and dropped his phone, which broke and ended the call. He cursed himself for being clumsy at a time like this. Chanel just stared at her phone wondering if she accidently hung up on him. Mary came in as she was about to call him back again. "Dear, are you ready yet? You parents are waiting," Mary said. "Yes. I'm ready," Chanel shoved her phone into her purse and followed Mary through the house. When they arrived at the Brown's home, Brad was the one to greet them. He smiled slyly at Chanel and she grimaced. Brad led them to the dining room where the rest of the family waited for them. Chanel excused herself and headed for the bathroom. Emma followed her. "Hi Chanel," Emma said as Chanel washed her hands. "How have you been?" "Fine. You?" Chanel was confused as to why Emma followed her. "I've been better," Emma shrugged, "Chanel, you've been nice to me so I'm going to do you a favor." "What favor?" asked Chanel. "Brad is planning on blackmailing you. He knows that you've been talking to some guy named Mark who Brad thinks your parents wouldn't approve of," Emma whispered, "He's going to rat you out if you don't start going out with him." "Wait, my parents don't care who I go out with. And how do you know this?" said Chanel. "I'm his little sister," Emma continued, "Your parents care more than you think. I bet they're going to approve of you and Brad, what with your father trying to get on my father's good side." Chanel shook her head in disbelief. "Your wrong about that," Chanel said. "I'm never wrong," Emma said as she walked out. Chanel angrily threw the paper towel she used into the trash. Her parents were laughing at something Thomas said when she took her seat. She ate in silence as James was trying to persuade Thomas to help him with his business. Chanel's phone chimed loudly, no one bothered to notice the sound except Brad. He leaned over to whisper to her, "Is it Mark?" She checked her phone. She received a text message from Mark saying he had dropped his phone. "Mind your own business," she whispered back. Their parents stood and headed through the doors to the bar outside. Emma left to her room. "This is my business. You're going to be my girlfriend so I can tell you I don't want you talking to that stupid boy," Brad said, sipping wine from his father's cup. "I would rather die than be your girlfriend," she hissed. "One way or another, you'll be my girlfriend. And sooner or later your parents will know about Mark," he smiled. "My parents wouldn't force me to date anyone I didn't want to date," she said confidently. "Open your eyes, babe, your father would do anything to get my father to help him," Brad said, "Anything." One morning, Chanel woke up to the sound of her cell phone ringing. "Hello?" she asked. "Hi. It's me," Mark said. He had never heard her so sleepy, "I'm sorry if I woke you." "It's fine," she said as she got up and put on her bath robe. "I have a surprise for you," he said excitedly, "Guess what it is!" "You've got us tickets to see the Jonas Brothers?" "Um no. I'm here! In Washington!" Chanel dropped the cookie she was nibbling on. "You're here? How?" She was almost screaming. "I took a plane. You said your parents were going out of town for the weekend, so I thought I'd come see you," Mark said, "Is that ok?" "Yes! I've wanted to see you again. But you should've told me. I could've sent the jet," she said. "It's no problem," he tried to sound casual, "Is it ok if I come in? It's getting kind of cold out here." "I'll be down in a minute," she said as she hung up and flew out her room. She almost knocked down Mary. When she got to the door, she checked in the mirror before opening it. She didn't look her best, but that'd have to do. She threw the heavy door open and smiled as she caught sight of Mark hugging himself for warmth. When Mark saw Chanel standing right in front of him, he couldn't help but feel happy. (Less)
