Les triangles des sistres tintaient
avec un éclat métallique,
et sur cette étrange musique
les zingarellas se levaient.
Tambours de basque allaient leur train,
et les guitares forcenées
grinçaient sous des mains obstinées,
même chanson, même refrain!
Tra la la la la la la
Les anneaux de cuivre et d'argent
reluisaient sur les peaux bistrées;
d'orange ou de rouge zébrées
les étoffes flottaient au vent.
La danse au chant se mariait,
d'abord indécise et timide,
plus vive ensuite et plus rapide...
cela montait, montait, montait, montait!
Tra la la la la la la.
Les Bohémiens, à tour de bras,
de leurs instruments faisaient rage,
et cet éblouissant tapage
ensorcelait les zingaras!
Sous le rhythme de la chanson,
ardentes, folles, enfiévrées,
elles se laissaient, enivrées,
emporter par le tourbillon!
Tra la la la la la la.
The triangles they used to play
Would set the gypsy rhythms tingling,
Till roused by their metallic jingling
The gypsy girls began to sway.
Their tambourines took up the theme,
While mad guitars in rhythm beating
Were unrelentingly repeating
This very song, this same refrain!
Tra la la la la la la.
The copper and the silver rings
Would shine against the dusky faces;
The red and orange of their dresses
Would go swirling upon the wind;
And soon the dance was under way.
It started slowly with the singing,
Then gaining speed and wildly spinning,
It whirled away, away, away, away!
Tra la la la la la la.
The gypsy men with hands awhirl,
Beat out a rhythm mad, demonic,
Intoxicating with their music
Inflaming every gypsy girl!
And by the rhythm of the song,
Demented and with passion burning,
They were swept away, wildly spinning,
In a whirlwind borne along!
Tra la la la la la la. (Less)
Lord of the Rings: Hungry Eyes I was inspired to make this video by two things. Firstly, seeing MorganCharles's fantastic (More) I was inspired to make this video by two things. Firstly, seeing MorganCharles's fantastic video which introduced me to the subject matter - namely, a Legolas/Aragorn shipper vid, and also the information that there is, according to LOTR lore, a 'Hungry Eyes' video in existence that the crew on the films made and showed Orlando Bloom. MorganCharles's video really inspired me, and I was bitten by the bug from the moment I saw it. I do confess to using a similar interpretation of the arrow nocking/sword drawing scene as Morgan does, as I couldn't find a better place in the video to put it than that, so all credit and acknowledgement for that moment of the vid goes to the original vidder.
The song itself has long been a favourite of mine, and with the amount of longing, wide eyed looks that abound in this film, from both actors, it was a natural choice. Orlando Bloom and Viggo Mortensen play off one another so well, and have a great onscreen chemistry, and Peter Jackson is, of course, the god of the camera in the films. The sweeping 180 degree shots of the actors that he's so well versed in were lovely to work with and manipulate, and there were so many lingering shots on the actors' faces, capturing their eyes and facial expressions that I was hard pressed to condense them all down into four minutes. For me, the whole trilogy is all about the eyes...from Orlando Bloom, Viggo Mortensen and Liv Tyler's long, stately gazes to the sheer warmth of Elijah Wood and Dominic Monaghan's chemistry. It works so well as a piece of film, and Jackson sure as hell got it right with his casting. I say that not because I'm an expert about LOTR, far from it in fact, but as someone who appreciates the sheer bloody hard work it takes to plan, execute and shoot a film, let alone nine-odd hours of it.
I hope you have as much fun watching this as I did making it - it's cheesy, it's slashy, it's a little bit tongue in cheek (I have been a but cheeky with some of the shots I've juxtaposed, to create a certain...suggestion of things unseen on camera ;)) but for me, it had to be done. I hope you enjoy it :) (Less)
