B.O Du film "Last Days of Disco" Cheryl Lynn 'Lydia' (More) B.O Du film "Last Days of Disco" Cheryl Lynn 'Lydia' Smith dite Cheryl Lynn. Chanteuse de gospel, elle n'avait pas un physique facile et n'imaginait pas pouvoir percer dans le R&B surtout pas par la télévision. Elle refusait même de se produire en solo dans la chorale 'Church Of The Living God' dont sa mère, Opal Smith, était la directrice musicale. C'est son petit ami de l'époque qui l'inscrit alors à un concours de chant télévisé le plus chic d'Amérique, le 'Gong Show'. Elle participat et chantat 'You are so beautiful' de Billy Preston. L'émission est enregistrée en juin 1977 et n'est diffusée qu'en septembre, Cheryl à eu le temps d'oublier cet épisode et elle prépare déjà un engagement dans la production 'The Wiz' à San Fransisco. Mais le destin en a décidé autrement et les producteurs qui on vu sa prestation au 'Gong Show' se bousculent a sa porte pour lui faire signer un contrat. C'est finalement Columbia qui finira par l'emporter. Ses producteurs David et Marty Paich lui font enregistrer son premier album qui porte d'ailleur son nom 'Cheryl Lynn' en 1978 avec le fameux 'Got to be real' (voir video) co-écrit par David Paich et David Foster. Le titre aurra du mal à décoler mais il finira en haut des charts Soul et du Top 20 Pop au début de 1979. Au même moment Cheryl Lynn prète sa magnifique voix au groupe TOTO sur le titre 'Georgy Porgy'. Le troisième album intitulé 'In The Night' sort 1981 avec les célèbres titres 'Shake it up tonight' ou 'If you'll be true to me'. C'est surtout l'album 'Instant Love' paru en 1982 qui confirme son succès grâce au titre 'If this world where mine' enregistré avec Luther Vandross en hommage à Tammi Terrell et Marvin Gaye. Le succès continue avec le titre 'Encore' issu de l'album 'Preppie' enregistré en 1983 grâce entre autre à Jimmy Jam et Terry Lewis qui travaillaient avec Prince.
