Jefferson Circus Songs : by Suzan Pitt : PART 2/2 Part two of Suzan Pitt's "Jefferson Circus Songs"
Suzan Pitt's paintings and (More) Part two of Suzan Pitt's "Jefferson Circus Songs"
Suzan Pitt's paintings and animated films have won numerous prizes worldwide. Her film "ASPARAGUS" showed with David Lynch's ERASERHEAD for two years on the Midnight Movie circuit and won first prize at the Atlanta Film festival and the Oberhausen Short Film Festival along with the International Critic's prize. "ASPARAGUS" was featured in the Hiroshima International Animation Festival in Japan and the Cardiff International Animation Festival in England among 20 other festivals. Animation historian John Cannemaker wrote "The extraordinary ASPARAGUS is one of the most lavish and wondrous animated shorts ever made...an overwhelming visual experience."
Suzan Pitt's works have pushed the boundaries of the animated film form, thriving in both the art world and the television, theatrical, and festival venues. She has had major exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of Art, the Holly Solomon Gallery in New York, and the Stedlijk Museum in Amsterdam. She has designed two operas in Germany which were the first operas to include animated images for the stage (Damnation of Faust, and The Magic Flute). In addition, Pitt has created two large multi-media shows at the Venice Biennale and Harvard University.
Her work has been acclaimed by the New York Times as "inventive, astonishing, and visually lush" while the Village Voice's J. Hoberman says her work is "marvelous" and further says, "Pitt may be our Snow White hope- more than any other animator, she has the gifts that could sustain a feature-length work". (Less)
