Debates about homosexuality's conflict with Christianity are reducible to God's immutable laws vs. man's laws. To put it simply Christians believe that it is a sinful act that leads to damnation and there are others who consider it to be natural. Good Christians try to obey God's laws because they have faith in him and faith, which has nothing to do with reason, can never be proven wrong. However, if someone of any ideology suggests there is evidence that homosexuality is clearly wrong or not harmful then they should not be surprised when an endless debate about "I know" vs. "I know" ensues. This is not a discussion about mathematics where arriving at an unequivocal proof is possible given an unproved proposition.
Putting scripture aside, the opponents and supporters of same sex marriages have little option but to make generalisations based on observations when trying to establish their argument and yes, in essence, this is what debating is. The problem here is that thought processes from observations to conclusion are influenced by notions of what is "obviously" good or evil. What makes it so "obviously" good or evil? Our exposure to our environment, which includes relationships, interferes with our innate sense of what is absolutely wrong or right so unfortunately we're back to square one. This is yet another example of how conceited we are by positing what needs to be questioned too.
Good is often attributed to things that nurture and bad to what takes away or deprives. These associations have a lot to do with our survival instincts and the distinction between good and evil is not always clear as actions often have both positive and negative effects simultaneously. For example taking abused children away from their families may allow them to grow up in a more caring environment but at the same time it deprives biological parents of their right to raise them.
Today homosexuals are no longer persecuted in the west for their acts but now seek further privileges such as to marry and have children. Homosexuals are trying to emulate the natural family and failing miserably through their grotesque mockery. Children have a right to a father and mother figure, but when a family is torn apart through the loss of one or even both parents through tragedy this is not a violation of children's rights but simply a sad event.
The hackneyed expression "but what about single parents" introduces the argument of single parent vs. homosexual couples argument which is not a valid contrast, as the existence of single parents can come about naturally. Christians are trying to communicate that homosexuality and thus gay marriage and family is not a natural occurrence. Similarly, arguing that homosexuality is observed throughout the entire animal kingdom backfires as animals are observed committing acts such as incest, murder and rape. If we can compare other animals to humans why not compare humans to other animals and say that other animals are capable of wrong too instead of presuming everything other animals do is natural. If naturalness is what is observed from other animals then why not say let the strongest survive in the human race and let the weak die?
Why are women more likely to have custody of children than men who adore their children just as much? How can we on the one hand say that women are better suited to raise children and on the other say that sexuality is irrelevant? Gender roles are for our own benefit and there is anecdotal evidence that boys and girls from birth are drawn to toys typical for their sex. We gravitate to roles we were born for and most comfortable with on life's stage and this is what God had intended.
When we commit an act which may or may not be a sin only someone who knows or is the truth can judge us. To judge requires familiarity of the law, compassion and most of all knowledge. This is what the Bible has taught us. So who created the law? Who has unconditional and infinite compassion? A jury ponders about the knowledge given to them by the court and may never know the truth, but does the Jury know the defendant's most inner thoughts? Only God does.
It is as if absolute morality and knowledge, which is related to the Word - Jesus, are dimensions that form the plane of human existence. Life is meaningless without morality, which is established by God, and we can not live without knowledge, which Jesus uses to Judge, and we can not live without the Holy Spirit, which is right before our eyes. The spiritually blind can not see this because without morality and knowledge they do not know their location so why do they question anyone else's position if they don't know their own?
