Abilene High's Pure Gold Show 2006: Cheek to Cheek Pure Gold sings "Cheek to Cheek". "Cheek to Cheek" is a song written by Irving (More) Pure Gold sings "Cheek to Cheek". "Cheek to Cheek" is a song written by Irving Berlin, and first performed by Fred Astaire in the movie Top Hat (1935). The song is probably most famous for its opening lines, "Heaven, I'm in heaven, and my heart beats so that I can hardly speak..." and was featured in the Astaire-Rogers movie, soon becoming a standard sung by many other artists, including Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Eva Cassidy, Doris Day, Jane Monheit and Frank Sinatra. The song, as sung by Astaire and Fitzgerald, is featured in the movie The English Patient. It is sung by Kenneth Branagh in Love's Labour's Lost. It is also shown being performed in The Green Mile, Rain Man and The Purple Rose of Cairo when Top Hat is being viewed. Pure Gold is a vocal ensemble group directed by Teri Godfrey consisting of six men and women who can sing and dance with equal skill. Once a year on May 1st at the Paramount Theatre in downtown Abilene, Texas, they put on a show that is free admission (so long as you've gotten a ticket from a member or gotten one from the choir director). Director: Teri Godfrey Choreographer: Teri Wilkerson As a side note, this is a school that was shown in the movie "Friday Night Lights". Remember the team that beat Odessa Permian 46-6 in the movie? Yes, not only do the Eagles have an awesome football team year in and year out, the choir department is strong as well. (Less)
Amy Raasch "52 SONGS IN 52 WEEKS:" Song 9: "Lucky" I was the Maid of Honor in my best friend's wedding in November (07). While she is a most (More) I was the Maid of Honor in my best friend's wedding in November (07). While she is a most graceful, beautiful human, she professes a tendency toward clumsiness, which she claims to have inherited from her mother. In getting to spend a little time with the dynamic mother/daughter team while stuffing tea bags and the like (a great wedding favor, btw), I bore witness to this phenomenon. Glasses of red wine were spilled. Tea leaves flew. At 3 a.m. the night before (ie., morning of) the wedding, the idea for this song popped into my head, but I didn't have time or wakefulness to follow it through. I'd never written a song in this style before, but there it was. I finished it for the 52, just in time for St. Paddy's Day. Enjoy!
LUCKY

I left my hat on the bed
I walked underneath a ladder
A black cat crossed my path
But I don't care
I was born in a leap year
I live at number thirteen, dear
But you won't see me shed a tear
I'm lucky 'cause of you, you, you
I'm so lucky 'cause of you, you, you
The sky may be stormy, but it won't fall through
I'm so lucky 'cause of you, you, you
So take me to the races, I'm lucky 'cause of you
I knocked over the lamp
The lights went out with a crash
Spilled red wine on my dress
But I don't care
I never win at Tic, Tac, Toe
And you can forget the Lotto
But I Love You is my motto
I'm lucky 'cause of you, you, you
I'm so lucky 'cause of you, you, you
Leave that four leaf clover for someone else to use
I'm so lucky 'cause of you, you, you
Watch the leprechaun turn blue, I'm lucky 'cause of you
I found my pot of gold
My love, this love just don't get old
I'm lucky, lucky, lucky 'cause of you
So take my hand let's ride
This rainbow to the sunny side
We're lucky, lucky, lucky, yes it's true
I'm so lucky 'cause of you, you, you
Like a deck stacked full of aces, you come right on cue
I'm so lucky 'cause of you, you, you
There ain't no jeopardy
In a bet on you and me
Roll the dice and you will see
I'm lucky 'cause of you
Lucky 'cause of you
Lucky 'cause of you (Less)
