The Mind is an Illusion, only the World is Real Of course, I don't really mean this (I don't think) but in thinking about the ways in (More) Of course, I don't really mean this (I don't think) but in thinking about the ways in which we organise our understanding of minds brains and bodies I was reminded of a Ken Wilbur video I watched in which he talks about how 'the world is an illusion, only brahman is real, brahman is the world'. 277 Yoga Vasistha Section 5, Chapter 13 continued What is known through thinking is not reality. Thought is a "borrowed intelligence" (More) What is known through thinking is not reality. Thought is a "borrowed intelligence" derived from consciousness. Perhaps it's better to think in term of modes. The mind is consciousness operating in a finite mode.
Thought cannot really comprehend anything. The mind is essentially inert.
The situation is described here in terms of prana which is perhaps not helpful. Prana is usually understood as some kind of subtle life-force which can be manipulated. The mind is the life-force. It is the creation of notions and identification with these notions. This life-force can be caught up with thoughts or it can rest in its own nature and be "the radiance of the supreme being or self." When identifying with notions of 'I' or ownership it's the jiva or individual psyche.
Prana is no more than the motivated attention, the attention in the thrall of the latent tendencies. There is no intelligence, no mind, no embodied being. And no prana? There is only the self. This is a subtle awareness, so subtle that it is easily overlooked. Once it is realised then our perspective with respect to the mind and its creations is then arighted.
