F.E.A.R. 2 Singleplayer Demo [PC][Part 2]
Playing the F.E.A.R. 2 Demo. Maximum in-game settings. 16xAA and 16xAF forced through nHancer. (More) Playing the F.E.A.R. 2 Demo. Maximum in-game settings. 16xAA and 16xAF forced through nHancer. Recorded with FRAPS capped at 30fps. [Part 2] I didn't record the very beginning of the game; I didn't think to start up FRAPS. For that, my apologies. Recording takes place after the opening intro. Overall, the game plays pretty decent. My initial impression upon starting it up, was that "this doesn't look like FEAR anymore." However, it still retains the "feel" of the original FEAR. At first I suspected that the engine may be the same from the previous games, but from what I've seen, I've come to believe it's a new engine -- or at least, very heavily modified. The graphics are astounding. I can't say that lightly. Watching the high quality, uncompressed version of my video reminds me of the pre-rendered videos of gameplay they show at gaming and tech conventions like E3. Basically, with the combined colors and screen effects, it looks a hell of a lot like a movie. The new shader effects are pretty interesting. The glow-effect on the ghosts in the blood-soaked room look great. I can see what appears to be HDR, or bloom on the sky, fire, and other light sources. The gore looks pretty decent, if not too "showy." The cracks in your HUD when you die is a nice touch. I want to say it's the HUD's design and fish-bowl effect that also attributes to making the game look like a movie. One thing I don't like however, is how enemy soldiers seem to "glow" while they're alive. Don't like that very much, unless there's a major plot reason behind it. I also hated the extremely annoying help popups. I want my screen to be devoid of any freakin' help text when I'm jumping around trying to shoot some fucker in the cerebrum. The mech suit at the end of the demo was certainly unexpected. We see those robots in every FEAR game, though it wasn't until now you can finally jump into one. Yeah, I got freaked out a few times, but nothing major. Some chills down my spine in the bloody room is one I can remember; specifically because I got attacked from behind by something I couldn't see. I did a few double takes on things I *think* I saw, and died once (fucking bus). It was an enjoyable experience while it lasted. (Less)
