(More) http://godneededahotrod.com Wax Daddy attends Boyd Coddington's funeral on March 5, 2008. "Rest in Peace, Boyd. Your memory and genius will always live on. Love Wax Daddy" (Tibute video coming soon).
From the Funeral, by Robert McGee.
"Today is a sad day, the fall of an icon, the fall of an ordinary man born to extraordinary things. Revolutionizing an industry creating art, obsessing for nothing less than perfection. He demonstrated a work ethic that people talked about. Every Saturday I saw him he would work. Sunday morning he'd say I can't wait until Monday, I would reply why, he would smile and say "there is a lot of work to be done and I'm excited because I love what I do."
One of the most memorable things to me was every time his phone rang he'd say "hang on this could be the one." I think everyone wishes they love what they do half as much as Boyd. Can you imagine after 30 or 40 years of doing the same job and being just as captured as the first time he saw a hot rod as a boy. He was. When I saw him in the hospital one of the last things he said was "who's going to take care of the Boydster?" I told him I would, if that doesn't demonstrate the level of passion what does?
When people pass away, some try to measure a man and his life by his accomplishments and contributions. This mans accomplishments and the cars that were his art have and will impact people for as long as there is a love for automobiles, their restoration, beautification and customizing. If there is a bar, he raised it and continues to carry it upward with his rise to the top for his entire career. His contributions measure in different ways. Providing beauty to your fellow man is an interesting task but was met. Giving inspiration to everyone from the garage builder to the shop owner, and changing the way people look at hot rods are only a few examples.
He also had 5 sons, seven grandchildren and a great grandchild on the way. He gave back by creating the Boyd Coddington Foundation and his constant work for the care and employment of the mentally challenged.
The accomplishments and contributions previous don't even compare to the true accomplishments, contributions, inspiration and love that is Boyd Coddington. So the next time you're at a car show, auto parts house or gas station and glance over at that post card or memorabilia remember the inspiration... (Less)
