Testing Indigo Renderer in Wine & brief look at Blender 2.46 I am getting into the spirit of rendering..
Blender 2.46, and be sure to check out the movie (More) I am getting into the spirit of rendering..
Blender 2.46, and be sure to check out the movie that people on the Peach project are trying to get done before SIGGRAPH 2008 (I suppose)..
They are releasing an animation:
http://peach.blender.org/index.php/trailer-page/
And if you buy their DVD, you'll get a copy of the movie and all the blend files used to make the movie!!

Indigo can be found here, it only runs on windows, but also runs on wine in linux:

Indigo seems to be closed source, so be careful..
Other news.. Houdini Apprentice HD sells for 99 dollars now.. The only real limitation is a non-commercial clause in the license, but it also can only be installed 3 times.. But both their free and 99 dollar versions come in a number of executable formats like Ubuntu 32-bit and 64-bit. Unfortunately, you have to buy a license for each version you want to use.. Unless you a 3D rocket scientist, I'd suggest learning blender before going to Houdini.. I've got a flame war running in their forums about what is fair and what is not, about their sales price, and I'm getting scoffed to death by all their snobby canadian (likely staff) owners. We'll see what happens, I've thrown shit at their fans, lets see if it sticks..
Also you might want to go checkout the procedural textures offered by Dark Tree.. They are very realistic and best of all free.. They work on blender, and a bunch of other platforms.. The catch? If you want to make your own you have to buy their software, which will give you the capacity to use your procedural textures across platforms..

And if you get them on the phone just tell them Kiernan sent you, and if you
can't pronounce my name, say rofthorax.. I don't know if you
get a special deal, but one may smirk and say "oh really.." (Less)
