Faithless is een Britse danceact, geformeerd rondom producer Rollo (echte naam Roland Armstrong), toetsenist/dj Sister Bliss (echte naam Ayalah Bentovim) en rapper/zanger Maxi Jazz (echte naam Maxwell Fraser). Daarnaast maakte producer Jamie Catto (eveneens bekend van zijn project 1 Giant Leap) en maakt gitarist Dave Randall deel uit van Faithless. Zangeres Dido, de zus van Roland Armstrong, is op verschillende nummers van Faithless te horen. Hun muziek is doorgaans een mix van Triphop, Progressive Trance, Hiphop, Pop, Club en vaak nog verschillende andere stijlen. Opvallend is dat de line-up van Faithless bestaat uit onder andere mensen met gitaren en drums in plaats van bijvoorbeeld enkel een dj met een zanger. Deze samenstelling is zeldzaam in de dancemuziek. De debuutsingle van Faithless uit 1995, Salva mea (Save me), werd een grote hit op de dansvloeren en later ook in de hitparades. In totaal werden er wereldwijd meer dan een miljoen exemplaren van verkocht. Latere successingles waren Insomnia (1996), God is a DJ (1998) en We come 1 (2001). Dat laatste nummer bereikte de tweede plaats in de Nederlandse Top 40, en God is a DJ bereikte zelfs de eerste plaats. In 2006 had Maxi Jazz een top 2-notering samen met Tiësto, Dance 4 life. "Insomnia" is a song recorded by British dance group Faithless. Released as the band's second single, it became one of their most successful. It was released in 1995 and became a hit in Dance Charts while peaking at #27 in the UK in 1995 and #3 in 1996 . The song also reached #48 in the UK chart as a re-entry in 2005 showing the song's longevity. The album version is more than ten minutes long and contains some lyrics not able to be broadcast on the radio edit due to their explicit content. It also contained some Bells chiming at the start of the song not generally known by the club going public as many people know the Monster Mix or the Monster Mix Radio Edit. The Monster Mix was the mix featured on Faithless' greatest hits album Forever Faithless. The song topped the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart. It was also voted dance song of the millennium[citation needed]. The Moody Mix featured on some of the singles was also on the Reverence / Irreverence release. The song features Maxi Jazz singing as an Insomniac while he struggles to sleep ("I toss and I turn without cease, like a curse, open my eyes and rise like yeast/At least a couple of weeks since I last slept, kept takin' sleepers, but now I keep myself pepped"). The subject is resonant with fans of dance music, since stimulant use is common in club/rave culture, and insomnia a normal side-effect. The insomniac is also rather destitute ("Make my way to the refrigerator/One dry potato inside, no lie, not even bread, jam..."). (Less)
