It sits on a corner of the main plaza in Iquitos, Perus largest jungle city. The grand residence was built at the peak of Perus rubber boom at the end of the 19th Century...when the remote jungle city was awash with money. Its said that it was the first prefabricated house in Latin America. Its also called the Eiffel House as it was designed by famous French architect Gustave ... (Less)
The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2... ...this is just a video of a working Tekken 2 arcade unit at the International Exposition Center (More) ...this is just a video of a working Tekken 2 arcade unit at the International Exposition Center (I-X Center) in Cleveland, OH.
As the video states is the very first Tekken game I played back in 1999 so it is very special to me.
Strange thing is I was incredibly surprised that it was still there after not visiting the I-X Center in about five years (not since 2003) when I was volunteering for my local nature center's booth at the annual Home and Garden Show. I didn't have any change at the time and I regretted not playing the machine because I didn't have the money.
Five years later...
I wanted to try and go to the Home and Garden Show this year because I wanted to use my digital camera to take some nice pictures of the pretty gardens. In 2003, the theme of the show was Spain. This year it was Italy. I must say the gardens set up by various sponsors were beautiful and I got lots of great pictures but I still had a secret vendetta to take care of.
After my family and I ate dinner at the food court, they wanted to go check out the craft portion of the show and I told them I wanted to check out the small arcade located below an enormous indoor ferris wheel in the center of the I-X center that was so big it needed a special skylight just so it could fit in the building. They said it was fine and we parted ways for a little while.
I had saved up a little change this summer and most of the fall from various cash purchases I made and I threw it into a little R2-D2 mug for safe keeping. Over that short time, I accumulated about $18 in loose change. I figured I would eventually roll the change and cash it in for bills but this opportunity to play Tekken 2 had arisen once again. So I gathered up all the quarters of this $18 and threw it in a ziplock baggie before I left the house.
Anyway, after my family and I ate, I ran off searching for this fabled Tekken 2 machine from five years ago hoping that it hadn't been replaced by one of its series later additions or even an entirely different machine.
I searched for a little bit and then suddenly I spotted it nestled between I think a House Of The Dead machine and a Hydro Thunder machine, but who cares?
I happily reached for the bag of quarters in my pocket and threw in the .50 required to play. Immediately I chose Yoshimitsu and began to play. I did all right for a while and I got whomped really bad a few times but I got as far as the fourth stage (hey I'm a bit rusty and I wasn't playing the game with a PS1 controller). As well as Yoshimitsu, I also played as Heihachi Mishima, Kazuya Mishima, and Lee Chaolan. I probably would've played as my absolute favorite, Bryan Fury, but he didn't appear until Tekken 3.
I played for about 15 minutes and wasted about six bucks in quarters but it was so worth it.
It might've only been 15 minutes, but it was magical The point of this story is that the classics never die as long as we remember them. Sure that machine might've been pulled eventually but it was my destiny to play it again after not having the money originally. The game had to remain there until I was allowed to play it even for just a short time.
After I was done playing the game, I shot a picture of the machine for posterity and the short video of the attract mode which you are now watching.
I was so happy that I got to play this excellent game again and I might have to get a PS1 again for really cheap just so I can play this great game again whenever I want to.
