16 Iron Maiden Songs that should be on their greatest hits SPOILER; CONTAINS THE LIST
I recently bought Maiden's "Edward the Great" for my (More) SPOILER; CONTAINS THE LIST
I recently bought Maiden's "Edward the Great" for my Brother, and thought it was ok but lacked some key songs. I felt it should've come with a 2nd CD with another 16 songs, not because the first 16 were bad, but because it takes at least 2 CDs to do Maiden Justice.
Tracklist from Edward the Great:
"Run to the Hills"
"The Number of the Beast"
"The Trooper"
"Flight of Icarus"
"2 Minutes to Midnight"
"Wasted Years"
"Can I Play with Madness"
"The Evil That Men Do"
"Bring Your Daughter...to the Slaughter"
"Man on the Edge"
"Futureal"
"The Wicker Man"
"Brave New World"
"Wildest Dreams"
"Rainmaker"
"Fear of the Dark" (Live)
It's good, but i felt it could do with simply more,
my list is:
16) Flight of Icarus
15) Only The Good die Young
14) Afraid to Shoot Strangers (Fear of the Dark Album art kicks ass)
13) Transylvania (My favourite Instrumental)
12) Moonchild
11) Powerslave
10) Sign of the Cross (Best Blaze period song)
9) Heaven Can Wait
8) Rime of the Ancient Mariner (epic)
7) The Clairvoyant
6) Aces High
5) Paschendale (personal favourite)
4) Wrathchild
3) Phantom of The Opera
2) Iron Maiden (It's their signature song, why is it not on their greatest hits?)
1) Hallowed Be Thy Name (possibly their best song) (Less)
Electro Tribute to Iron Maiden - Wasted Years Bruce once said you couldn't possibly make Heavy Metal with Synthesizers to an enthusiastic (More) Bruce once said you couldn't possibly make Heavy Metal with Synthesizers to an enthusiastic Polish on Maiden's virgin voyage to his country. At the time it probably did sound like a bad idea, mostly due to the overwhelming amount of 'new wave' groups churning out sugar coated disposable synth-pop hits like a well oiled bed-pan manufacturer. The band increased their futuristic themes with their Prog-Rock masterpiece Somewhere in Time, quite possibly laying the foundations for future computer rockers to forgo Dickinson's stern warnings and play a couple of Iron Maiden's classics to the best of their synth layered inclinations.
Powerslaves the electronic tribute to Iron Maiden was largely overlooked, mostly due to the extremes of the genres involved. Heavy Metal fans are usually notorious for their disdain of anything and everything electronic oriented and are fiercely responded in kind by most electronic music fans.
History repeats itself with most genres of music until new artists break through the stereotypes and have enough open minded intelligent people who will support their daring fusions. Perhaps we are as a whole not ready to worship the synth over the guitars as of yet.
I for one believe it was, is and will be a classic collectionist item. Hopefully more electronic artists try to cover Iron Maiden's material which could in turn inspire them enough to create greater original material of their own to break the stigmas.
