iron&wine :x: a history of lovers sam beam of iron & wine performing "a history of lovers" at my university. taped in (More) sam beam of iron & wine performing "a history of lovers" at my university. taped in march of 2008. sorry for the iffy quality, but y'know.
cut to 1:20 for the song. i kept the dialogue because i thought sam was so charming and genuine and i thought others might want to see that. the whole joke about clapping along was in reference to earlier in the show when some people started clapping along to "boy with a coin" and couldn't keep the beat. he actually started the song over and over exaggerated nodding his head to the beat to poke fun at the rhythmically-challenged clappers.
::lyrics::
louise only got from me innocent poetry
although she played to not listen
but still i can hear myself speak as if no one else
ever could offer the same
some say she knowingly tastes like a recipe
although so foolish and willing
i said, "babe, i can picture you bend as if wanting to
bow as the curtain goes down"
coddle some men, they'll remember you fittingly
fuck 'em, they'll come back for more
i asked my louise would she leave and so cripple me
then came the knock at the door
"i came for my woman," he came with a razor blade
bound like us all for the ocean
i hope that she's happy i'm blamed for the death of
a man who would take her from me
some say they saw in me innocent poetry
some say they'll never be certain
but still it's been written, a history of lovers
given and taken in ink
coddle some men, they'll remember you bitterly
cut 'em, they'll come back for more
i asked my louise would she leave and so cripple me
then came a knock at the door
louise came to rescue me; listen, the irony:
blood made her heart change its beating
i hope that she's happy i'm blamed for the death of
the man she found better than me
this was his encore song and the only one he messed up on after a 12+ song set, which probably explains why he kept giggling. regardless, he got a standing ovation.
absolutely no copyright infringement intended. everything belongs to the genius sam beam; i'm merely spreading the joy.
note to sparrabethers: before the show started, everything from eric clapton to the raveonettes was playing in the background. then, "brothers on a hotel bed" came on. coincidence?? :) (Less)
