After searching for a major record label deal they landed one towards the end of 1986 with Virgin Records after a gig at, ironically enough, a jazz club. The group's dbut single for Virgin, "Shattered Dreams," became a big hit in 1987. The group's debut album, Turn Back The Clock, also proved successful, reaching #1 on the UK albums chart. The lead singer and main songwriter, Clark Datchler left in 1988 and was replaced by the former Cure bass guitarist, Phil Thornalley. A month before the release of their second album, Tall Stories in 1992, the band was involved in a serious car accident which left keyboardist Calvin Hayes in a body cast for over a year. The band lost momentum and eventually split. In the meantime Datchler released his first solo album, Raindance (1990), also by Virgin Records. The single Crown Of Thorns was released, but neither the single or album got any commercial impact. Two years later the album was re-released in Asia, now called Fishing For Souls - The Remix Album, with new production by Rupert Hine, and four new tracks. This edition also went unoticed. The band was nearly forgotten by most pop-fans, save the die-hard fans, until 2006 when Clark Datchler returned, now under the artist name Nightfoxx. A new solo album, Tomorrow, was released. In the spring of 2007, the album was re-released with a new track, now counting 12 tracks. In the summer of 2007, Nightfoxx decided to go back to his original artistname, Clark Datchler. In Sept 2007 Calvin Hayes announced that himself and Mike nocito, with a new vocalist,Danny Saxon, would be reforming Johnny Hates Jazz,to join the Here and Now 80s nostalgia Tour at Butlins Minehead resort for 4 nights,Nov 16-19th.If successful the band are hoping for more live dates in 2008.
