The video hightlight was shot during a successful International Kerambit Seminar in Italy.
People from different martial arts attended the seminar and more than half of them are instructors and have thier own martial arts academies.
Attendance came from Czech Republic, Slovenia, Spain, other than from different parts of Italy.
The seminar covered entries, release counters and take-downs in regards to the Kerambit.
What is a KERAMBIT?
The Kerambit (a.k.a, karambit, korambit) is a small hooked knife with a ring on its handle. Its a traditional close quarter, stealth weapon found most commonly in old silat styles and a few other southeast asian martial arts like several Filipino Kali/silat schools.
No matter how a person tries to convince you that the kerambit is an agricultural or D.I.Y tool you cant help but feel and see that its design and function is more for killing then anything else. Based on the design of a tigers claw, a competent practitioner don't just cut any part of the body but aims for the arteries and soft tissues of the body.
The kerambit cuts and slices, but its design functions more for tearing and piercing, to inflict maximum damage.
This seminar aims to raise curiosity and awareness among people of different nationalities about the martial heritage and culture of Brunei Darussalam and silat in general. The understanding that what makes a martial art is the culture from which it comes from and not generalizing it simply as all silat being the same.

ABOUT THE VIDEO
Accidents happen, you could fall or slip while defending yourself or trying to avoid a dangerous situation, you might sprain your ankle or broke your toe in a fight and you cant stand up.
GROUND & KNIFE SURVIVAL SEMINAR, DESENZANO DEL GARDA, ITALY 2007
The movements shown are "options" that you could have if you do have to defend yourself on the ground without resorting to grappling with the attacker.
NO GRAPPLING
Intended for multiple attackers you have to be mobile & cant afford to be entangled with one person.
If your legs & feet are not injured, it is advisable that u get up as soon as possible to fight on your feet or flee if the situation needs for you to do so.
The postures invite attacks to larger targets of the body. Due to the low elevation & inviting postures, when attacked all strikes & intentions coupled with body-weight, momentum & gravity are fully committed rendering the attacker vulnerable at the moment before hitting its target.
AGAINST MULTIPLE ATTACKERS ON THE GROUND
You may have heard many instructors say "ground fighting is totally useless against multiple attackers" but try thinking out of the box, ground fighting is NOT only grappling as this video demonstrates.
SPIDER-LIKE MOVEMENTS & TACTICS
The movements or mobility on the ground shown are distinctive in Silat Suffian Bela Diri & not widely found or seen in other silat styles. The movements may resemble sub-systems of the Labah-Labah (spider silat - more mobile) or Kura Kura (Turtle silat - less mobile) but the movements seen in this video are distinctive to Silat Suffian.
TRAINING METHODS
We do not "pressure test" movements to novice beginners, if the individual has not reach the competent level of understanding, why test his skills? Its like a college lecturer giving a final year exam paper after you attended only afew sessions of lectures. Does that make any sense? Martial arts training is no different.
Training beginners has to be done slowly and carefully.
Every action will equal the exact opposite reaction. The harder and faster the attack, the harder and faster will the attacker hit the ground. The defender has to compensate for every move the attacker makes. The movements has to be drilled repetatively to instill muscle memory, to understand zoning, to understand body mechanics and its underlying principles.
Reckless training may injure your training partner or yourself, resulting in low drill repetitions which at the end is not benificial to anyone.
Many Thanks to Carlo Andries, his beautiful family & students esp. Andrea & Gianluigi my translators in my classes, Alex, Gianmaria & all recievers of my movements.
