So, this is our fourth short film to participate in the Wild demo compo of JumaLAN, which was held this year in (More) The fifth Studio Ultimate Eye production: Harmaan sävyjä - Shades of Gray. So, this is our fourth short film to participate in the Wild demo compo of JumaLAN, which was held this year in 4-6.1.2008. Our past rankings have been: 2004: second place 2005: second place 2007: second place Naturally we didn't want to discontinue the tradition and were once again the runner-ups. I feared that there would be a lack of participation and competiton in this year's competition, but it was far from that. In fact, the quality of the participating videos was easily the highest of all these years, and the amount of some six wasn't too bad either. Obviously, we were aiming for the first place, and were disapointed that once again we failed at that. Additionally, Nahkis - one of three members of Studio Ultimate Eye - was the other guy behind the winning clip, that traitor. That said, the winner of year was, simply put, excellent. I've got to ask the guys to upload that, too. Unsurprisingly the genre of the film was (gag) comedy, whereas ours is drama (unless, of course, you'll view it as an awkward film with crappy acting, full of unintentional humour). Seeing as the winning film of the Wilds has always been a comedy, I reckon we should do one next year, too, if we intend to win. Certainly all of our project have contained humour to some extent, but of those that have participated in JumaLAN, only our very first project has been a pure comedy. Soviet Anthem music video is of course a pure comedy, too (or is it!?), but it didn't participate in jLAN, and was never supposed to, even if it was prime material for the wilds. Credits: Couple of errors in the on-screen credits, which I am too lazy to fix with my lacking video editing software/skills. Here are the proper ones: Tenshin - direction, script, acting & quality control Nahkis - camera, editing & acting Canis (me) - acting, title sequence & credits no Ronto saatana - acting laakkone - acting Thanks to The JumaLAN organizers for a great LAN party. The staff of Level5 for a great bar and permission to use it as a set. Titsu for loaning us such a neat knife, NERVana (Taikina) for that manly baseball bat. The Father of Nahkis for buying his beloved son a genuine video camera. Music: My Funny Valentine by Miles Davis. Notes: Unlike most of our videos, this one is filmed with an actual video camera, making this our second video that hasn't been filmed with an ordinary digital camera with shabby video properties. Nahkis got the video camera from his father as a Christmas present. The graininess of the nightshots is thanks to using the night vision property of the camera, which we had to use due to lack of artificial lighting. We did finally get Nahkis in front of the camera, like we threatened. Bashing people repeatedly with a baseball bat is surprisingly fun. (Less)
