We "orca lovers" have all heard of her situation. Many of us have mixed opinions on it, I am however here to state the truth. Lolita along with EVERY other orca held in captivity is in NO way forced to perform, it is physically impossible to force an 8,000+pound animal not to mention the most feared predator in the ocean to perform tricks and behaviors. Lolita just like other captive orcas have formed strong bonds with their trainers, they do what they are told, and if they feel otherwise, THEY WONT DO IT. IF SHE DIDNT WANT TO PERFORM, SHE WOULDNT! Lolita along with all other captive orcas dont perform for food, trainers use a method of training called "positive reinforcement" in which good behaviors are rewarded, while negative behaviors are ignored, but still focused on to improve. As a matter of fact, I along with MANY others use this method of training on my pet dog. Simply put: Good behavior=Fish, love, attention, rubdowns etc Bad Behavior= ignored, (trainers will however focus on the negative behavior in a positive manner to try and build the orcas trust up more so etc, and try and prevent the negative behavior from occuring too often. They arent beaten, they arent neglected, they are fed daily requirements of fish and dietary supplements such as vitamins, as well as frequent medical checks from skilled vetirinarians. The rumor that Lolita is dying has been going around for some 20+ years, IF THIS RUMOR IS TRUE, SHE WOULD BE DEAD ALREADY, TAKE A HINT! People do indeed put THEIR words into Lolita's and every other captive orcas mouth by saying their sad, depressed, and ill, honestly, did Lolita and the other orcas tell you this? Or is this YOUR OPINION. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT LOLITA OR OTHER CAPTIVE ORCAS ARE THINKING BUT THEMSELVES, SO QUIT PUTTING YOUR WORDS INTO THEIR MOUTHS! so now you know...the truth..
