Lowrider Calabria Mix: A. Williams' Lost Tape/Midwest Lows12 Kentucky Lowrider's @ Midwest Lowrider's 12th Show Tape shot By Anthony Williams and the (More) Kentucky Lowrider's @ Midwest Lowrider's 12th Show Tape shot By Anthony Williams and the Kentucky Lowriders This tape has not been seen since it was shot in 1992. It had been lost for 15 years It features Anthony Williams, Friday Caravan, and the hopping contest dominated by Darin Johnson and Stanley Statton Jr. Edited and re-mixed by me, Victor M Montañez, aka El Rebel X The SoundTrack is a remix of Enur's "Calabria" featurin Natasja Born in Copenhagen 1974, Died in Jamaica June 24th 2007. No sooner had we discovered her, and just as quickly, in a car crash, we lost her again. Just three months after uploading this video. I am using a sample from L'trimm's "Low Rider" and a sample of Ollin 13's "Lowrider Etno-Bass (Mexico city)". The reason I chose those samples is because on the 12th annual is when I began using the Slogan, "Experience an Ancient tradition" to promote the three day gatherings that were under attack by the conservative right. I was making the case that we had been gathering for too long to be banned from the land of Reagan. The 12th was the official launch of a media blitz that that included our own press and spoon feeding local and mainstream media. The campaign peaked with Americano's Latino Life in the USA, an HBO documentary produced by actor Edward James Olmos filmed on the 17th annual and released on the 19th annual with a sceening of the film at the show. The rest is history, but none of it that would have been possible without the help of lowrider leadership like Anthony Williams, Darin Johnson, and Stanley Sttaton Jr. and Sr. and countless other lowriders who joined the movement. There are more than two decades of shows before and after this one captured here by AW and his crew. This video captured the mid point of a long ride that challenged the stereotypes and myths that labeled Lowriding as strictly Latino gangster gathering of criminals. We have come a long way since those days in the early 80's and the 90's. When we had to fight a locally and represent at a national level. At home every show was a battle to get three places to host the gatherings. But we also waged war in the media by taking an offensive to reclaim and protect the image of lowriding from hijacking by all the usual suspects. We impacted lowriding nation wide for the better. Today there are countless shows in parks that basically follow our midwest model. You don't need big name music stars, you don't need seven foot trophies, all you need is a good vibe, friends, and a place kick back and go low. Lowriding will never die! (Less)
