While folks, it was karaoke night at one of my favorite Whitby Ontario nightspots, Charlie T's.
The crowd was pumped up and I knew I had to step of my game and pull a trick from my bag.
I told the DJ to throw on some of that Slim Shady shit, props to Mr.Marshal Mathers himself, and I hit the suckers with a rendition of one of my favorite Eminem songs (Moby diss aside) the super fantastic "With-Out" me.
Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born October 17, 1972), better known by his stage names Eminem and Slim Shady,[1] is an Academy Award-[2] and multiple Grammy Award-winning American rap artist. Having sold over seventy million albums worldwide,[3] Eminem is one of the highest-selling musicians of the early 2000s, and one of the highest-selling rap artists of all time.[3] Eminem was discovered by rapper and producer Dr. Dre, who later signed Eminem to his record label, Aftermath Entertainment.
"Without Me" was a hit single from Eminem's 2002 album The Eminem Show.
The song was Eminem's return after the successful The Marshall Mathers LP, intended as a sequel to "The Real Slim Shady" and essentially saying that he is back to save the world. It also refers to Eminem's role in the music industry and his cultural effects.
The song mocks a number of Eminem's critics, including Dick Cheney (and his wife Lynne Cheney), the FCC and MTV, Chris Kirkpatrick (of *NSYNC), Limp Bizkit and Moby, as well as lampooning comparisons of Eminem to Elvis Presley as a Caucasian succeeding commercially in a predominantly African-American art form. A line in the song also attacks his own mother Debbie Mathers for the lawsuit she filed against him for the lyrics of his debut single "My Name Is".
The opening lyric ("Two trailer park girls go round the outside...") is based on the single "Buffalo Gals" by Malcolm McLaren, while the introduction which is spoken by Obie Trice ("Obie Trice, real name no gimmicks."), had helped the rapper who was soon (at the time) to achieve some success under Eminem's Shady Records label (the intro was actually taken from the beginning of Trice's own track called "Rap Name").
A sample from the track, the phrase "nobody listens to techno", became an underground techno bootleg anthem produced by Deep Dish and Danny Howells under the alias Size DDD (Deep Dish Danny). The song was played by many well-known DJs to satirize the claim. The song was also parodied on All That, a skit show on Nickelodeon, as "Without Meat". In the second verse a line samples the intro from one of Eminem's own songs
