Junco Partners - Smokestack Lightnin' This live cover of the classic Howlin' Wolf track "Smokestack Lightnin'" was (More) This live cover of the classic Howlin' Wolf track "Smokestack Lightnin'" was filmed by Echo Productions and features the band who backed the Wolf on his tour of the UK during the 1960s.
"Junco Partners", formed in 1964, took over from the Animals at the famous "Club A'Gogo" and "Downbeat Club" in Newcastle and Sunderland's "Blue Note". The band enjoyed fanatical local success almost immediately and turned "pro" to go to Hamburg's famous "Star Club" of "The Beatles" notoriety, but were turned back at the border as being too young to get visas. They then spent six years playing the national club and college circuit alongside "The Who", "Rod Stewart", "Jethro Tull", "John Mayall Band", "Jimi Hendrix" and many others. They personally backed Blues giants "Howlin Wolf" and "Freddie King" on international tours. The band made single and album releases, but split in 1971. Individual members went on to play with "Robert Palmer", "Elkie Brooks", "Mick Ronson", "Mick Abrahams", "Bell & Arc" and "Lindisfarne".
Re-formed in 1977 for the "Newcastle Festival", The "Juncos" captured a new audience, particularly from the Northern University & College circuit and played regularly at the "Cooperage" on the Newcastle Quayside. An Independent single achieved national release in 1978 and caught the attention of television producer "Malcolm Gerrie" - (of "The Tube", it's forerunner "Alright Now" and also "White Room" fame). A complete episode of "Alright Now" was made with the "Juncos" and "Eric Burdon", former lead singer with the "Animals", who was especially flown in from Los Angeles to jam live in the studio. A singles deal with "Roxy Music's" management followed but chart success was still elusive. A cameo appearance as the "Juncos" on "Jimmy Nail's - Spender" in 1993 demonstrates the lasting interest in the band and confirms the indefatigable quality that still attracts and pleases audiences.
Now returned to their R'n'B roots, they continue to receive fantastic support from a growing and enthusiastic audience playing only at a few well selected gigs.
* Two unique singers Ronnie Barker and John Anderson front the band both have soul, taste and spontaneous good humour which defies imitation.
* Dual lead guitarists Kenny Barker and Charlie Harcourt, distinctively different players, each with bags of feeling, pull out mind blowing solos out of thin air.
* Justin Radford provides the best Rock'n'Roll sax playing in Britain.
* Underpinning it all is the long running, driving rhythm partnership of Dave Sproat on Fender bass and John Woods on drums.
You can catch more of them in the forthcoming documentary "Gettin' the Blues".

CORR-Championship Offroad Racing is race genre born from the Baja Mexico 500/1000 races which led to the development of a wide range of tough custom 2 and 4 wheel drive off-road race vehicles including 800HP trucks with massive suspensions along with Pro Lite street style trucks, dirt buggies, trophy carts, ATV's and Rhino racers. James Baldwin was instrumental in developing and bringing the races to the people with stadium style race events championed by Mickey Thompson in the 1960's. Now many members of the Baldwin family help manage, promote and race in CORR events. X medalist and show host Rat Sult open it up with hot music and a high desert drive to Palmdale California. N.E. of Los Angeles to the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds-site of the CORR races. The X cams were there shooting this new style of motor sports with Rat naming off drivers like Ricky Johnson, Josh Baldwin, Alan Pflueger, Curt LeDuc and Carl Renezeder who all just love battling it out in the dirt! Scarlet Records band Allhelluja matches the action with their song and video "Superhero Mother..."! Nice moves girls! After the break it's back to high rev mud slinging Pro-2 class off-road action in front of thousands where drivers are banging it up and going BIG off dirt kickers and berms easily covering 10 truck lengths through the air! It's loud and Rat's proud to be there covering all the moves over the mile long course. Sub NoiZe Records band Hed p.e. pumps it up with their song "Sweetchops". Sick POV action shots here from cameras in the rigs as well as from an over-head cable cam capable of 100MPH+ provided by Perpetual Motion. The next segment continues hard and fast with MOWER rolling their song 'Road Rage' to track action that includes mass destruction and vehicle carnage-flips-rolls and fire all over the Lancaster track! Somehow the song seems appropriate. Body panels fly and the segment continues to pound on with more Sub NoiZe music from the Humble Gods rolling their tune 'Destroy'-only the strongest survive! In the pits Rat talks to NASCAR driver Robby Gordon about CORR and his recap of the race -see what he says. After that the relentless high powered action continues with a new RIVE video from Eulogy Records band The Warriors doing their song 'Downbeat'. Cool edit effects here along with insane airborne race action and a message from the band! Rolling the pits Rat then speaks to driver Josh Baldwin who talks about his #86 custom Ford truck and what it takes to get the power to the ground in the rig! Check out the shots of the inside of the truck followed by more race moves with Josh jamming on the track. Daddy X pumps the song 'Mind Bender' and Rat catches up with another team Baldwin driver super-cross legend and all around off-road champion Ricky Johnson who talks about what he thinks the future of CORR will be. The show closes out with a dose of off-road single buggy action where chicks roll too! Rat talks to driver Cissy Baldwin about her moves on the track against the guys! Go girl! Stay tuned for part 2 of Xcorps coverage of the CORR race series with host Jason Lazo reporting from San Diego at a cool outdoor track called 'The Quarry'.
