Windows 3.1 - 9x
Windows 3.1 had the first ever startup sound in Windows history. Windows 3.1 introduced 'Workgroups' which went on to be 'Servers'
Windows 95 - 9x
Windows 95, or 'Chicago' was the first 'high quality' OS in the Windows family.
Windows NT - NT
Windows NT was a new technoligy. Windows NT, and it's counterparts, Windows NT Server and it's beta versions, could not run in DOS mode - however, this means that they are free of Blue Screen of Death
Windows 98 - 9x
Windows 98 was the version after 95, not NT. It was a continuation of 9x, adding more features.
Windows 2000 - NT
Microsoft decided to ship a new version of the NT family, formerly called 'Windows NT 5.0'. This also added new features from NT and 98.
Windows Me - 9x
Called 'Windws Mistake Edition' by many for it's BSOD and lack of stabilty. The last - and underappreciated - version of Windows 9x-DOS.
Windows XP - NT
Microsoft Windows XP was the continuation of Windows 2000 - after the continuous complaints about bSODs, MS had no other choice. And that choice was about the best choice ever. Windows XP comes in a few different versions: Home, Pro, Media, and 64-bit.
Windows Vista - NT
Windows Vista was SUPPOSED to be great, but it destroyed the CD drivers on TOSHIBA laptops for many...along with it's crappy buttons for Minimize, Restore/maximize and Close. The hated buttons also appear on Windows Live software for Windows XP.
Windows 7 - NT?
Will Windows 7 be released on NT? Will it be crappier than Vista? Find out in about 2010...
