In the year 2000 he received SurMani ( Jewels of sound) award in Mumbay -- India.
Pandit Kumar Lal Mishra, the son of Pandit Samta Prasad Mishra, is a known tabla artist and he accompanied other famous sitar players like Pandit Ravi Shankar.
The vocal basis is characteristic of classical indian music, the instrument music following the example of the human voice.
