Porsche Design P'9611 by Navigon - 1st Video Review In today's program we're going to have a look at the Porsche Design P'9611 navigation (More) In today's program we're going to have a look at the Porsche Design P'9611 navigation system designed by Navigon.
The box, which is as elegant as the device itself, includes:
- a car charger
- a regular charger
- an attachment for car installation
- a 4 GB. Secure Digital memory card with maps of all European countries
- a USB cable
- a recovery DVD
- printed manuals in 6 languages.
The device looks very appealing, its metal elements immediately catch the eye, while the slim 19mm. thick casing makes it quite handy.
The 16:9 LCD screen measuring 4.3 inches cross ensures comfortable functioning.
The user-friendly menu is quite intuitive and easy to use and was designed in cooperation with Frauenhofer Institute - Europe's largest ergonomics research organization. None of our testers had any difficulties operating the device.
The Porsche Design P'9611 comes equipped with 2 speakers - one 1.7 Watt located in the mount and one 0.7 Watt inside the casing. The audio quality is OK.
Apart from its navigational functions, the device can be used to playback .mp3 files either through its speakers or through the headphones.
Let's take a look at the navigation system.
The system has a map database for all European countries, including a detailed and up do to date map - which encompasses all roads both paved and dirt, even in rural areas.
We can observe our route in 2 dimensions or an isometric view [3D].
The screen settings can be quickly optimized for day or night driving.
The device's ease of use is a definite plus. We had no problems entering addresses, as the touch screen allows for casual but efficient typing.
The speed at which the P'9611 functions is also OK :
The P'9611 GPS system immediately logs on to the grid and lock on the GPS signal.
An important upgrade introduced in this model is the Lane Assistant function, designed by NAVIGON, which informs the driver which lane he should chose. The Lane Assistant can prove quite helpful both in an unfamiliar city environment or when skimming by on highways.
The TMC Traffic Message Channel receiver is an interesting add-on. The system supplies information on traffic jams on a FM frequency and implements the data when navigating, showing us the way around difficult traffic.
While driving the system also shows us the speed limit for the segment of the road we're travelling on - it even warns us visually and acoustically when we exceed it by a certain speed, which can be defined in the device settings.
The systems audio output volume is automatically adjusted to the cars speed and the mount of noise inside.
The device can also display POI Points Of Interest on its map - either all of them or only those defined by the user. This function not only helps find gas stations, but car shops or shopping centers as well.
The P'9611 is equipped in a cutting edge Bluetooth module which supports automatic synchronization of phonebooks, displaying names, and automatic connect with the telephone after the owner enters his car. We tested the system.
We had no problem with device communication and our interlocutors heard us loud and clear.
The Porsche Design Logo on the casing definitely means an obligation to quality, and its easy to see the manufacturers put a lot of work into the interface and design of the device.
Which isn't surprising, taking into account the fact that the potential buyer will have to dish out the equivalent of 1000 Euros...
Or would have had to, if he decided to buy the device after its premiere in fall of 2007.
(now the price is much lower: ca. 600-700 Euro)
We consider it a good choice.

SONY NV-U92T GPS Video Review (english text - polish lector) In this program the Medialook.pl team will be reviewing the Sony NV-U92T - the GPS navigation (More) In this program the Medialook.pl team will be reviewing the Sony NV-U92T - the GPS navigation system.
We'll start on a strong note -- the device was chosen the best portable navigation system in the EISA 2007/2008 classification in the In-Car Electronics category.
The results were announced in August 2007. Meanwhile, Sony's GPS also ranked high in specialist magazines such as Car&Hifi or Navi Magazin.
Will the device live up to our high hopes, were the awards and praise well earned? You'll know in a moment.
Apart from the Sony NV-U92T device, the boxed set contains:
- a car mount with a suction cup
- USB cable
- driver CD
- manual, license and registration cards
- and the case
As far as first impressions go, the device makes a good one. The devices design stems from that set out for the entire series of Sony products. If you look closely, you can see the resemblance to the Playstation Portable or the Bravia Series TV screens. In short, component materials are high quality the aesthetics are pleasing -- the device can be described as elegant. Thanks to the built-in antenna, there is no need for additional installations and unnecessary wires.
The Sony NV-U92T is made of high grade plastic formed into a slick 20 mm. chassis. The 4,8 inch anti-reflex coated TFT screen allows for comfortable use and is also covered in a special coat that prevents leaving fingerprint smudges. Thanks to these features, the 16:9 screen allows us to get a good view of our planned route.
The Sony NV-U92T model comes equipped with a Navtec map that spans 37 countries in Europe. We encountered no problems while using it.
Sony's GPS also uses a gesture recognition system (Gesture Command), which increases the drivers safety -- the device can be operated by simple strokes of the finger performed on the screen. The system can be used to set the destination, increase volume or access other options.
The Sony NV-U92T also has another innovative system - the Sony Position Plus. It guarantees the device has constant access to exact data about the route even if it is out of range of the GPS signal.
Such situations often occur when the car enters a tunnel, is among tall buildings, or in a place where the satellite signal is scrambled.
TMC (Traffic Message Channel) is yet another interesting function. The communication channel is used to gather data about traffic jams or construction work so the user can choose the best possible route.
It's often the case that GPS systems include extra functions just for fun, such as a mp3 or video file player, sometimes even games. Sony decided to focus only on the core function of its device, and in our opinion this is a good thing.
The Sony NV-U92T is easy to use and the navigation works perfectly. In this case, the Sony brand really proves to be worth something.
The Sony NV-U92T also has the following features: a Memory Stick Duo reader, a jack for stereo headphones, a built-in 2 Watt speaker and a USB 1.1 port for map updating and battery charging.
The devices price has been set fairly. Sony dealers offer it at 450 Euro, we managed to find it for even up to 50 Euro less.
We consider it to be worth the price.
