This is the Eric Kupper Mix for the jazzy cover that Groove Collective did for the originally deep bluesy classic of the beatles. I Want You (She's So Heavy)" is a song by The Beatles, from their album Abbey Road. It was written by John Lennon, although it is credited as a Lennon/McCartney collaboration. The song is an unusual Beatles composition for a variety of reasons, namely its length (nearly eight minutes), its disproportionately small number of lyrics (there are only fourteen different words in the song), its three-minute descension through the same repeated guitar chords (a similar arpeggiated figure appears in another of Lennon's contributions to the album, "Because"), its hard rock sound, and for its instantaneous and unanticipated end. It is also one of the last songs that the Beatles mixed as a group, on August 20, 1969. The song was rehearsed several times during the Get Back/Let It Be sessions New York City's Groove Collective transcends musical categories with one goal in mind: to move listeners' minds and feet. For more than a decade, this legendary group of musicians has improvised and refined the stylistic crosspollination of funk, jazz, house, Latin, hip hop, rock and every party-inducing sound in between. The pioneering members of Groove Collective are fluent in the international language of "groove." In-the-pocket drum and bass, colorful and vibrant horns, flavors of world percussion and intricate harmony all fuse together seamlessly under their watch. Groove Collective's innovative and refined sound is unparalleled. They are the masters of multi-hued funk. Billboard Magazine says that they "erase musical borders" and are "jazz/funk fusion at its most sublime." Groove Collective is a Grammy nominated Contemporary Jazz group formed in 1990. In 2007 they were nominated for a GRAMMY award for an album released in the famed Savoy Jazz label. They scored two minor dance instrumental and adult contemporary hits in 1996 with a cover of The Beatles' "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" (US Dance/Club Play #45, US Dance Maxi Singles #23) and "Lift Off" (US R&B/Hip-Hop #73). Groove Collective's musical style reflects the wide-ranging backgrounds and interests of its individual members. Commenting on the group's 1996 release, We the People, critic Michael Casey referred to the numerous influences at work in Groove Collective's sound, specifically the presence of Afro-pop, Latin jazz, hip-hop, and traditional jazz stylings. This mix is born of the members' varying influences, including bebop jazz, funk, old-school hip-hop and classic soul. The group is also noted for its incorporation of a DJ into its sound. Eric Kupper got his start two decades ago working as a keyboardist and guitarist for such producer/remixers as David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Arthur Baker, Peter Rauhofer, and Richie Jones to name a few. Since 1986 he has played on, remixed, and/or produced over 1400 records for artists spanning all contemporary musical genres. Eric also creates a great deal of music outside of the dance realm, including unashamed pop, heavy rock, punk, folk, indie rock, or whatever floats his musical boat. A few years back Eric was bitten (hard!) by the DJ bug as well and became a resident at London's Pacha with Hed Kandi for four years, as well as DJing all around the globe as an independent DJ or as a Hed Kandi resident.
