Pokemon Movie 4 (English Version) Part 3/4 Pokemon 4Ever Release Date: October 10, 2002 This film is presented in its original widescreen (More) Pokemon 4Ever Release Date: October 10, 2002 This film is presented in its original widescreen format. It is extremely hard to find the english dub in the more...widescreen format, and this version is not available on DVD, so this is a once in a lifetime chance to watch the film like this. The scene where Jessie, James and Meowth grab hold of a peach and fall off of Vicious's machine is only in this version. The opening segment was originally part of POKEMON HEROES, but again, additional animation by OLM were produced specifically for this version of the film, and this segment was re-used for POKEMON HEROES. The original Japanese version of this film contained hand-colored cel animation, while all of the animation for the English version was colored digitally. The ending is completely different in this version. In the Japanese version, Sammy returns to his own time and is greeted by Diana's grandmother. In the English version, Ash, Misty and Brock talk to Professor Oak about their adventure and Ash tells Professor Oak how much he misses Sammy. Professor Oak assures Ash that he and Sammy will be friends forever. It then cuts to Professor Oak's lab, and he opens his diary with the drawing of Celebi and Pikachu that he did while with Ash, Misty and Brock. The ending in the Japanese version left the Sammy's future identity subplot rather open-ended, but the english dub made it perfectly clear that Sammy was Professor Oak as a young boy. The link between Sammy and Professor Oak was so essential to the entire plot for the English adaptation that 4Kids Entertainment actually asked Team Kotabiashi (the animation team that does the animation for the Pokemon movies) at OLM to animate a whole new ending just for the adaptation. As a bonus, OLM produced another scene for the 4Kids adaptation, and that was the 1 minute long Team Rocket peach-grabbing sequence was animated specifically for the adaptation. Why they did this, I have no idea. The ending and the extra scene were produced by OLM months after the Japanese version of the film was released. The scene where Ash tells Professor Oak about Suicune via videophone was also re-animated for the same aforementioned reasons. This film is one of the best dubbed Pokemon movies- and one of the rare instances where I actually liked the dub just as much as the original. This is the first english adapation of a Pokemon film to not be rescored, unlike the first 3 films where 4Kids did probably the worst job ever on rescoring them. (Less)
Pokemon Movie 1 (Original Uncut Version) Part 2/4 Japanese Title: Mewtwo's Counterattack English Title: Pokemon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes (More) Japanese Title: Mewtwo's Counterattack English Title: Pokemon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Japanese Theatrical Release Date: July 18, 1998 USA more...Theatrical Release Date: November 10, 1999 In Japanese with English subtitles. This is the uncut Japanese version of the first Pokemon movie, and it is presented in it's original aspect ratio of 1.85:1 The most notable difference from this version to the American dubbed version is the omission of the "Mewtwo's Origin" sequence. This sequence was edited out of all foreign releases, and inculded only in the Japanese version. That 11 minute sequence was later dubbed into English and done as a seperate short, "The Origin of Mewtwo". There are 2 versions of this film in Japanese. The 2nd version (as shown here, which was later used for the English dub) contained re-done animation and new computer generated effects. The 1st version did not have any of that. In my own personal opinion, this version of the film is WAY better than the english version done by 4Kids Entertainment- for many reasons. This version fleshes out Mewtwo more, and gives his character credibility by stating a reason why he became so evil. The dubbed english version just forces us to accept that Mewtwo is an evil Pokemon, and makes us think that there was really no reason to think why it became so evil in the first place. Another thing is that the original script for this film is way better than the english adaptation done by 4Kids Entertainment. But what I am about to write is the biggest difference of this version to the English dub. In this version, it is clearly stated that there is no reason for each Pokemon to fight each other, and this happened only because the cloned Pokemon were ordered by Mewtwo to fight the original Pokemon in order to see who was strongest. But in the english dubbed version, they kept that idea, but added a moral which destroyed the film (for me) and threw away the credibility of the entire Pokemon franchise. There was a "fighting is wrong" moral, and to convey that, the awful song "Brother, My Brother" was inserted into that version. This is the primary reason why that version was the worst Pokemon movie in the English language. But other than that, please enjoy this, for me it was like watching a movie for the very first time.
