From Dogtown to the GR stage: BLACK OCEAN "Rattle & Break" The "Rattle & Break" music video was recorded at Greece's AN Club and directed (More) The "Rattle & Break" music video was recorded at Greece's AN Club and directed and edited by Dimitri Maniatis of Silent Progression. Vid features x-pro skater and Greece's first pro surfer Tas, Godfather of the CST brotherhood (vocals/guitar), and JB (bass), and Antonis Petridis (drums).
Tas is a Pro teamrider for Frozen Wave: Billabong/Element/Von Zipper/Kustom and for Shop and Shops and has been called in Greece "The Godfather of Surf and Skate" in the media, having started surfing and skating in Greece during the early 70's and never quitting. A full length music/surf documentary DVD starring Tas will be released in 2009.
Tas lives both in Dogtown and at The Ikarus Artist Commune in CST Territory and fronts the band Black Ocean. Tas's roots go way back to the day with skating, surfing, and/or working professionally with Tony Alva, Peggy Oki, Allen Sarlo, Jay Adams, and other Z Boys and he was the Intl Longboard Skateboard Association President at one point.
Tas has played support dates with over fifty national acts including Iggy Pop, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Social Distortion, Jimmy Cliff, JFA, Goo Goo Dolls, and Royal Trux, and has performed on-stage with members of Black Flag, Bad Religion, REM, Nine Inch Nails, Flogging Molly, The Replacements, NOFX, Social Distortion, My Morning Jacket, Goo Goo Dolls, Danzig, and Agent Orange, from hardcore shows at New York City's now closed legendary CBGB's to punk shows at Las Vegas' House Of Blues, to metal shows at Hollywood's Sunset Strip icon Whisky A Go-Go.
Tas was the first Greek musician to record with Steve Albini back in 1995 with George Schwindt (drums, now playing in Flogging Molly) and Phil White (bass) for the album "Problem of the Poet". Nathan December later joined on bass before joining REM for two albums and tours (Monster & Up) and then later again Goo Goo Dolls. Rick Rubin's label American Recordings offered Tas a record deal for an Albini album recorded in 1997 but the deal never went through. Negotiations are in the process now for release of Black Ocean's debut album outside Greece.
Black Ocean is headlining The Ikarus Rock Festival in 2008. More info at TheIkarusFestival.com
"Rattle & Break" is from the V2 Music GR label debut album "The Zen Of Rock And Roll" recorded and mixed by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio in Chicago. The album was recorded all live and in one take (one day) and mixed in two days and cost less than two thousand euro dollars.

Biography
"A Greek rock band with the power and conviction to make you truly believe. Juggling hardcore, epic rock, grunge and country punk, Black Ocean are kinda like Nirvana meets The Lemonheads meets The Meat Puppets meets Fugazi. 'The Zen Of Rock And Roll' is the debut album, recorded and mixed by Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Stooges) and chock full of genuine promise.
Echoing the likes of Nirvana's debut record or the early Soundgarden, Tad and Mudhoney material - these are dynamic pop songs with a hardcore edge, replacing slickness for a gritty live feel and rock attitude. Black Ocean have delivered a record that shifts from grimy hardcore menace to a country punk groove with the odd epic rock moment thrown in for good measure, and as such deserves to be heard and loved by as many people as humanly possible." -- Mike Bond

Reviews for
Air Cartoons
"Air Cartoons" brings the street-famed poet to trunk subs and iPod buds with bent-over-the-knee authority, spirit spewing from belly to the Tip of the tongue, the teeth & the lips.
If progression is the name, Azeem's production team brings big game. With heavy hitters like Z-Trip and DJ Quest, the album ditches played bass and snare mediocrity and shimmers in its unconventional metallic threads;
- URB Magazine
California Bay Area emcee Azeem is undoubtedly one of the most gifted writers in music, and especially in hip-hop. PopMatters.com
This album is another great example of the diverse music being churned out in the Bay. - JIVE
Azeem has always been one of the West Coast's most extraordinary emcees. He can make a listener laugh, cry and even shake their soul with his Nostradamus-like predictions. - RapReviews
Wicked good.
- XLR8R (Lucky 13)
Oakland's Azeem has released one of the more interesting records of the summer, Air Cartoons (Oaklyn). Dont miss out on this one LAS Mag
Air Cartoons a must-have album for fans of creative, meaningful rap music.
- Exclaim!
Azeem has been a Thick favorite over the years. He's one of the illest and most slept-on lyricists to ever come out of Oakland. Dude is like Saul Williams, Ras Kass and Kool Keith mixed into one rapper! When it comes to droppin' knowledge, Azeem is next level. - ThickOnline
It should come as no surprise that Azeem is also involved with other areas of performing arts like acting and spoken word poetry because Air Cartoons really comes off more like an experience than just a record. - SouthCoast247
While the best rappers are also natural stage performers, Azeem's talents stretch beyond the recording booth. Last year he achieved national acclaim for his one-man show Rude Boy, depicting the daily struggle of "Jamerican" janitor Johnny Burke. The play originally ran in Chicago and New York; - SFWeekly
Azeem is a man of many talents. Beginning his career as a nationally recognized slam poet, and later as a member of local acts Telefunken and Spearhead, in the past six years he's put out five underground rap albums (recording as Azeem) on five different labels
His catalog of albums -- 2000's "Garage Opera" and "Craft Classic," 2004's "Show Business" and "Mayhemystics," and 2008's "Air Cartoons" -- stand as some of the most intelligent, thought-provoking hip-hop music ever to come out of the Bay Area. Yet despite a good deal of critical acclaim, commercial success has eluded him.
