PSP News - July '07 PSP News - July '07 Summary *July 1st - Dark Alex announces he is working on 3.51 OE *July (More) PSP News - July '07 Summary *July 1st - Dark Alex announces he is working on 3.51 OE *July 1st - Official ISO loader found in 3.50, 3.51. np9660.prx designed to allow users to load games from their memory cards. *June 29th - Official 3.51 firmware released - security patch to prevent the Illuminati exploit. *July 2nd - Dark Alex announces on his official site: "Bye, scene. I've decided to cease OE development, and leave PSP scene. The reasons are various. One of them is the time it consumes, which I'm losing from other things. The other is related to my security. I didn't like Sony menaces to PS3 hackers. I think it is better to leave now rather than end paying the consequences." This was definately a shock after he had announced he was working on 3.51. A sad day for the PSP Scene but not the end of the scene by any measure, other talented individuals will certainly pick up the slack. *July 4th - Team Noobz released 3.50 Downgrader and HEN for the Japanese verson of Lumines. (June 26th for the European and North American versions) *July 8th - Lumines in Japan has already been "patched" to require 3.51 firmware to run, effectively preventing any downgrading using the new release. Expect unpatched Lumines games to continue rising in price and expect the same thing for US releases. *July 11th - Sony announces new slim PSP design *July 14th - The new slim PSP designs shown at E3, new features include redesigned umd tray, TV out, and a usb charging function. *July 14th - CFW 3.51 M33 - Russian Team M33 - custom background waves crash usb and save data, problem with wifi in 1.50 homebrew, theme menu not functioning properly. (See M33 updates since initial release). *July 25th - Team M33 released custom firmware 3.52 M33. My observations on the new PSP design: - the umd port looks kind of flimsy to me - IR is gone so no more universal remote control fun - the slim design could actually make it harder to hold - speakers facing out is a great idea - no dual analog sticks is a major disappointment - if Sony comes up with new security measures we can't beat, the old PSPs will probably end up being more valuable Update: A closer look at the PSP Slim (video on Kotaku) http://kotaku.com/gaming/clips/psp-2k-video-walkthrough-294786.php 3.51 M33 Custom Firmware http://dl.qj.net/PSP-custom-firmware:-CFW-v3.51-M33-PSP/pg/12/fid/14098/catid/163 WIFI fix for 3.51 M33 http://dl.qj.net/Firmwares/pg/12/fid/14110/catid/163 Team Noobz 3.50 HEN & Downgrader for JPN http://dl.qj.net/PSP-FW-3.50-downgrader-%28from-Noobz-team%29-PSP-Homebrew-Applications/pg/12/fid/14049/catid/151 Team Noobz's 3.50 Downgrader FAQ http://www.noobz.eu/joomla/news/3.50-downgrader-faqs.html Video Tutorial for Downgrading to 3.50 (Note: I'm not sure how good this tutorial is but I thought I'd put the link up anyway and let you judge for yourselves.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7c2r84AXyk If you need PSP programs, go here http://dl.qj.net/index.php?&catid=106&show=all If you need PSP help, go here http://forums.qj.net/f-faqs-guides-and-tutorials-41.html/ http://forums.maxconsole.net/forumdisplay.php?f=130 http://lan.st/forumdisplay.php?f=16 To chat about PSP, come to irc://irc.malloc.us/psp-hacks irc://irc.servercentral.net/psp Some of my PSP media (including the Matrix gameboot) (Link moved to channel description) A Note to my Viewers If you have questions, go to the PSP forums or IRC.
