One of the most effective, and simple, mods that you can make to a 2WD rc car is to add a gyro from an RC helicopter to the steering.
Just as in an RC helicopter, where the Gyro is used to adust the tail to keep the helicopter straight while it is being affected by turbulence and rotor-torque, the same Gyro can be fitted to an RC car/truck etc. to keep the vehicle straight when it is being affected by loose surfaces/loss of traction/natural 2WD oversteer etc.
It works VERY simply, it senses the vehicles tendancy for the rear to shift side to side, and adjusts the front wheels to keep the vehicle heading in the direction it is travelling.
It is VERY easy to drive after this modification, you will find that you need a lot less steering input, and will start to get used tot he fact that the car will simply follow the direction that you want it to go, while it adjusts its steering automatically.
It's not a COMPLETE override of the vehicles steering, and it is still possible to spin out of control - however the tendancy for a loss off control due to sliding, braking or accelleration is reduced GREATLY... the vehicle in this video has bald rear tyres, and is still easily driveable on wet grass and loose gravel.
Ok, so I've taken a short description and made it too long and complex...!
It's just a simple and effective way of making any 2WD (or 4WD) vehicle a little bit easier to drive, especially great for kids or beginners.
