King - Stand By Me (Teen Town 1959) <br /> <br />Benjamin Earl Nelson est né le 23 septembre 1938, à Henderson en Caroline du Sud. Le petit Benjamin fait ses débuts dans la musique à l'âge de six ans, en chantant dans la chorale de l'Eglise de son village. La famille déménage ensuite à New York, où Ben chante et travaille dans le restaurant de son père à Harlem et monte des groupes vocaux, avec ses potes. En 1956, il est remarqué par Lover Patterson, manager du groupe Five Crowns. Ben pose alors quelques featurings pour la formation et remplace dès 58, le chanteur des Drifters. Cette aventure va durer deux ans et en 60, Ben E King continue sa route en solo. Il interprète alors Spanish Harlem et le légendaire Stand By Me. Ses deux titres, entre autres, rencontrent un succès monstrueux aux Etats-Unis, consacrant le chanteur au sommet de la soul music. Après son album Seven Letters, en 1965, Ben E King disparaît plus ou moins du devant de la scène, pour ne réapparaître que dix ans plus tard, avec Supernatural. A la fin des années 70, il collabore avec le Average White Band et retrouve les Drifters, le temps d'une tournée européenne. En 1986, Stand By Me, le film, réalisé par Rob Reiner, remet le titre sur les rails et surtout sur le chemin des ventes. Deux ans plus tard, Save the Last Dance For Me, Manhattan sort dans les bacs. Shades of Blue paraît en 1999. (Less)
