Many stands on the market do not. * Stable. Although it may rock when you push forward with a loaded bar, you have to tip it very far to make it fall. The more I use this, the more confident I get that it will never let me down. * The safety catches can go extremely low, plenty low as a safety drop for all-the-way down squats. At the lowest setting, the bar rests 20.25" (51cm) above the floor.Minor problems: * The assembly instructions are brief. E.g., dummies like me don't know how to screw a nyloc nut. (The nylon goes at the far end, and you screw the bolt through the nylon using a lot of force.) * Some of the parts and even the instructions appeared to be missing. They weren't; I just had to look carefully. * The rubber parts smell a bit. * The safety catches are a pain to adjust. If it's really hard to screw in the locking bolt, you probably have the holes mis-aligned. * Some of the nice paint was chipped off, right out of the box. Also, of course when one returns a knurled bar to the stands, the knurling rubs off paint from the back tines. The small bare spots are vulnerable to rust. This should have no functional consequences, however. * I suppose the springs in the screws for the safety catches might lose their tension over time. I asked sales about this, and they advised that the screws should work fine even if the springs wear out. I'm sure they will, but as with all equipment one should continually check that nothing unscrews itself over time.Of course you'll also want a quality bar. Don't buy one that has no specs on what it can hold. If you do squats, you'll probably prefer a powerlifting bar, not a weight lifting bar.Update: After 8 months I noticed the rubber smell is gone. I don't know when it left, but it's gone now. Also, the stands have continued to work safely and reliably after much, often very heavy use. I love these stands." "I'm a free weight kind of guy. Building home gym. This thing is great. Very versatile. With an adjustable flat bench you can use it for any standard barbell exercise (benches, squats, presses, etc). Just got it in the mail, seems to be good quality. Easy to put together. Easy to pick up and stick in a closet. Saves on space and money because you're buying one product to replace at least three. Plus you're saving on the gym membership as well. Only minus in my book is that it is made in China. Didn't realize till after the purchase.
