Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival 2012 - Mixed Platinum… Two bright, scorching hot days of Dragon Boat (More) Two bright, scorching hot days of Dragon Boat racing at Mateo Sutton Park. Just a little wind on the water. The festival had a huge turnout, what great fun it was to be there to see all the performers, displays, and racing. Food was good, too. Thousands of people - young and elderly, families, pets, you name it. Special note - the VIU Music Department students that performed were outstanding - they get an A+ from me.
Back to the racing. I only captured the last race but if I am back next year I would like to focus on just women - pay tribute to those who are confronted with the greatest competition of all in facing down breast cancer. The Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival Society that supports this event donates 100% of the net proceeds to the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation to assist in improving the diagnostic treatment process of breast cancer patients. Dragon Boat 1, my apologies. I captured you at the paddle to the race start but could not get you within my lens frame as your boat was much further west of the other three boats. Also, lots of editing due to passing boats, pedestrians, sea planes, poles, rolling dock and sea waves, sun glare, the usual excuses. All shots on telephoto.
