Blues for Gary -- Remembering Gary Primich Please visit http://www.jimrichter.com Gary (More) Please visit http://www.jimrichter.com Gary Primich, blues harpist and all around good guy, passed away this Sunday 9/23/07. Though I was only a minor acquaintance of Gary's, Gary meant a lot to our community of Bloomington, IN and was either a friend or hero to many of us in the Central Indiana blues community. Gary's loss is a tragedy and his harp voice cannot be filled. I wrote this tune this AM thinking of Gary and what he meant to me as an inspiration. Many of us used to study his albums or go see him play to learn the right way to play the blues. Travelin' Mood was one of those albums that knocked us off our feet, with tunes like "School of Hard Knocks" or his inimitable harp arrangement of Ellington's Caravan. This little mandolin thing is sort of a homage to some of those uptown chromatic harp things Gary would do. And, eerily, the phone you hear at the end is a friend calling to talk about Gary. (Less)
