The Groundwater Visualisation System (GVS) is a powerful software package produced by QUT for understanding and communicating temporal groundwater and surface processes, complex sub-surface geology and their relationships.
This model is of the sand mass Bribie Island in northern Moreton Bay of southeast Queensland, Australia. The island has a growing population in the southern one-third, the remainder is plantation forestry, bushland and reserves. Groundwater supplies are used locally but a total system understanding has been lacking.
To remedy this the agency responsible for groundwater resources on the island, Seqwater, retained QUT to develop an integrated conceptual hydrogeological model using a 3D visualisation format. The model has reinterpreted the hydrogeology of the island, added all available bore data, and incorporates time series animation of water levels. Why we are conducting Perth's Groundwater… We have been running the Groundwater Replenishment (More) We have been running the Groundwater Replenishment Trial since 2010. Groundwater replenishment is where recycled water is treated to drinking water quality standards and replenished into existing groundwater. We are trialing groundwater replenishment under local conditions to determine if it can be used to boost drinking water supplies in Perth. (Less)
