BreakAnoid Showcase Here's a quick demo of the game I made in second (More) Here's a quick demo of the game I made in second year for my Object Oriented Programming second semester assignment. I used the assignment as a means of learning C# and the XNA Framework (4.0) from scratch. As a result I set a realistic goal: To create a Breakout clone in the two month period we were given.
The game itself has three levels, all of which you see in the video. The game loops back to level 1 when all of the blocks on level 3 are destroyed and the game continues until you die. The player gains a few hundred points when they clear a stage and an extra life for every additional 1,500 points they get. The breaking glass sound is used to let the player know they've gotten an extra life, while an additional ball is drawn to the "Life" section. Why would I use that soundbit? I don't rightly remember.
As you might have noticed, I entered into the "Leaderboard" section first. That was just my way of letting you (viewers) see that the function works (I go back to it at the end to see that I ranked in at 5th place, with 10th place being knocked out of the leaderboards and those below me moving down a space). Nothing too fancy, I just wanted to put a leaderboard in.
Everything in the game, from the U.I to the at-times dodgy physics (I tried my best O.K?) was made by myself(The art makes it clearly apparent!), with the exception of the music, which I requested from a royalty-free website. You only heard one of the tracks, but there are four in total in the game. All details about the artist can be found at the end of the video, inside the "Instructions" tab.
I chose specific songs that worked with the tone of the game. I wanted the theme of BreakAnoid to be laid back / relaxed, and each song exemplifies the theme perfectly! You argue that increasing the speed as time goes on / when the player hits a brick is hypocritical, but I still wanted it to be challenging. No challenge = no enjoyment, in my opinion!
You'll also see that there are XBox 360 buttons flavoured throughout the menus. The game has full controller support and I was actually using one to play the demo!
