Before we get started with adding anything, it's a good idea to get to know the areas of the Skin Editor as we are going to be spending a lot of time here over the next few videos.
In the Thesis Main area click on the 'Skin Editor' link in the Skin drop down. This will take us to the Skin Editor area.
On the top left of the screen are four buttons. These are the areas where we can create out theme. The first one is the 'HTML' area and this is the framework of our site. The second button is the 'CSS' area where we style our site. We then have an 'Images' area where we can upload images to our skin. This is separate from the 'Media' area of WordPress. And lastly we have a 'Manager' area where we can backup or skin, import previous skin settings and restore the defaults of the skin if we wanted to start again.
On the right of the screen we then have a 'View Site' button as well as the 'Thesis' word that takes us back to our Thesis Admin area and the WordPress dashboard.
In the HTML area we have different 'template' and these make up the pages of our site. So a post uses the 'single' template, pages uses the 'Page' template and category pages use the 'Archive' template. We can also create custom templates for just about anything at all. If you want a post to display differently you can create a special template to use. Once you have templates created you can copy them into new or exiting templates by selecting it from the drop down in the right of the template pop up box.
Beside the template name is a 'cog' icon and this is where you can set some functionality on the site such as JavaScript as well as a class identifier and how many posts appear on the page if you happen to be adding posts to that template.
Moving down we then have a blank container labelled 'Body'. This is where we will be adding all of our structure.
On the right side are three boxes. The first is a box of elements that we can add to our site such as the site title, tagline etc. Underneath that is an area where we can create new containers or structural elements for our site. The last box is like a trash bin. So if you have any elements that you don't want any more you can move it to that box and it will be deleted the next time you save your template.
