De legendarische filmacteur en vechtkunstmeester Bruce Lee ontwikkelde de vechtkunst Jeet Kune Do. Jeet Kune Do betekent letterlijk vertaald uit het Kantonees: "weg van de onderscheppende vuist".
JKD is een niet-klassieke, niet traditionele, krijgskunst met een sterke basis van Wing Chun Kung Fu, boksen, kickboksen, jiujitsu en schermen. Gebaseerd op de principes van simpliciteit, rendement in beweging en individualiteit. En ontwikkeld voor zelfverdediging op straat.
Bruce Lee's originele stijl was het Wing Chun Kung Fu. Zijn Sifu (leraar) was Ip Man. Wing Chun gaat er van uit dat de beoefenaar zwakker is dan de aanvaller omdat de oprichter van Wing Chun een vrouw was. Er wordt dan ook over het algemeen veel aandacht besteedt aan structuur en techniek. Dit is dan ook terug te vinden in Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do.
