John Hagee: Faith Healing + Benny Hinn = $ (March… This John Hagee interview is from Benny Hinn's (More) This John Hagee interview is from Benny Hinn's This Is Your Day television program. It aired in early 2003, prior to the invasion of Iraq. The full show can be found on Google Video.
Warning: the Hinn-Hagee levels of arrogance and idiocy are staggering, as is the lack of biblical knowledge betrayed by these third-rate stand-up comics.
THE WAGES OF HINN
Hagee begins with words of encouragement for his faith-healing friend, Benny Hinn, who was, at the time, mired in one of his ongoing financial scandals.
HAGEE: "The healing ministry creates two things: crowds and controversy. And you [Hinn] have a healing ministry that's blessed of God...the anointing of God to heal the sick...see, why Satan hates this so [is because] we live in a visual world. Television has taken over the reading of books. Television is the weapon of communication to the whole of the world, and people don't have to have faith to see something with their eyes. The visual, carnal man is ruled by what he sees. People of faith live in a faith dimension. But the carnal world lives by what they see. And when they see someone healed they instantly can no longer disbelieve in the reality of Christ. They are confronted with: 'This is real, Christ is real, healing is real. I must have reconciliation with the power of Christ.' That's one thing Satan cannot afford...when people see people healed on the TV, it instantly brings them into a crisis decision that they have to make up their mind: What will you do with Jesus who is called the Christ? And that is the driving force behind all of the opposition that you [Benny Hinn, the scam artist] have faced over recent months."
The "opposition" refers to widespread media scrutiny of Hinn's bombastic sorcery and insatiable greed. The very sorcery and greed which benefits the gluttony of Hagee and other snake-oil salesmen like Mike Murdoch, Peter Popoff and Morris Cerullo. They win converts to their "flocks" every time Benny Hinn performs a magic show on the Tee Vee.
All this time, I had the naiveté to assume that faith-healing was performed to relieve the burden on our health-care system and allow doctors extra vacation time, or perhaps it was an honest, magnanimous endeavor to alleviate suffering.
However, Sideshow Hagee admits that it's merely a cheap, cynical magic trick to beguile the most credulous TV viewers.
Those of us not predisposed to blind faith in the confusing Orwellian doublethink of Christian mythology are supposed to be instantaneously convinced by the disgusting spectacle of televised "faith-healings."
Hagee prudently avoids inviting unbelievers to attend live faith-healings, as only the desperate and the credulous need apply and the observant would notice the large numbers of attendees who were obviously not healed.
And, as many among us have observed, faith healers never regenerate the severed limbs of amputees. Even the gospel forgers of Rome were hesitant in promoting that lie alongside the somehow more plausible myths of virgin births, water-skiing vampires, pious demons and flying zombies.
MAGICIAN, HEAL THYSELF!
These faith-healings, aside from the placebo effect of mesmerism and "fellowship," never amount to any true physical healing whatsoever. In fact, Benny Hinn killed an elderly Christian woman (Ella Peppard) in 1986 when she was crushed by falling Christians who were, by the magic hand of Hinn, "slain in the spirit," an Evangelical term meaning "knocked over." Hinn refused her medical attention, even neglecting to offer her the miraculous healing powers God has famously entrusted unto him. So she died of complications soon thereafter. It should be noted that no attempt was made by Hinn, or any other Christian, to raise this woman from the dead.
Which begs the question: Why are Evangelicals so reluctant to share the miracles of Jesus? Shouldn't these "healers" have crawled out of their palatial Roach Motels to be the first to demonstrate God's resurrection power on, say, Terry Schaivo? Or Ronald Reagan? Or to reanimate Charlton Heston lest we pry his gun from his cold dead fingers?
(No disrespect, O avatar of Moses! Charlton Heston was one of my favorite actors and no Hollywood star today can hold a CANDLE to the screen presence of Captain Taylor!)
And why the reluctance of Evangelicals to prove they can drink poison with no fear of illness or death - as "the risen Jesus" prescribes in chapter 16 of the Gospel of Mark? This is the same verse which says "true believers" can heal the sick and raise the dead.
Would this strychnine-Eucharist not impress many skeptics? Methinks it would. (Less)
