Machine Tool Technician The Machine Tool Technician program prepares (More) The Machine Tool Technician program prepares students for careeers in many types of precision metalworking trades. Graduates may become toolmakers, tool & die makers, moldmakers, CNC programmers, or machinists depending on the type of work they prefer.
In the Machine Tool Technician program, students learn to set up and operate manual and computer numerically controlled (CNC) lathes and milling machines, surface grinders, wire and sinker electrical discharge machines (EDM), and other machine tools to precisely machine metal parts and tooling. Students learn to use blueprints, CAD drawings, computer aided manufacturing software (CAM), precision measurements tools, and inspection equipment to aid them in machining precision parts. Projects in this program include building stamping dies and plastic injection molds using tool and die making skills and the high tech manual and CNC equipment in the machine tool lab. The skills learned in this program create the foundation for careers in many precision machining fields and credit may apply toward state apprenticeship programs.
