are facing another hard, post-war winter; at
the same time, however, they are also
looking forward to a forthcoming social
event in the hope that it will somehow
improve their situation: the engagement of
the regiment’s commander Colonel
Bellmont t Freya Sonnenberg, the second of
three sisters from a respectable
middle–class family. For Freya this step
means breaking out of the deprivation of the
post–war years to a life of affluence and
freedom in the USA. Nora, the oldest sister,
has her own expectations which are rooted
in the past: their beloved father, formerly
the highly–esteemed mayor of the small
town, was driven out of office by the
petit–bourgeois forces who gained power
under the Nazis, causing him to die of grief.
Meanwhile, the youngest sister Gudrun is
simply living life to the full, enjoying her
sexuality, with no ambitions, no inhibitions –
all the more so when the plans of her elder
sisters are unexpectedly threatened by
faiure. On the evening before the wedding a
blackmailer turns up who threatens to reveal
allegedly compromising details from Freya’s
past, from her period of service as a
Wehrmacht helper. Will the sisters manage

Die Firma Fein hat sie einst erfunden und baut sie noch immer -- inzwischen auch mit Zulieferteilen aus dem Ausland.
