Bolton 3-1 Liverpool 21 jan 2012 Bolton secured only their second home win of the (More) Bolton secured only their second home win of the season as the 3-1 victory over Liverpool lifted them out of the relegation zone.
Midfielders Mark Davies and Nigel Reo-Coker gave the home side a deserved 2-0 lead inside half an hour before Craig Bellamy reduced the deficit before the interval.
However, five minutes into the second half Gretar Steinsson restored the two-goal cushion.
Liverpool have won the last 10 encounters against Bolton but that record counted for little as early as the fourth minute when the home side took the lead.
Martin Skrtel stepped out to meet Chris Eagles' pass into Ngog but the slightest of touches from the Bolton player moved it on to Mark Davies, who charged into the penalty area to shoot low just inside Jose Reina's left-hand post.
Four minutes later Eagles almost made it 2-0 when he held off the challenge of Jose Enrique as he ran in from the touchline only to see his cross-shot roll past the far post from a narrow angle, with no team-mate arriving to provide the finishing touch.
Liverpool's first chance came when Bellamy ran on to Jordan Henderson's through-ball but the Wales international's cross was claimed at the near post by Adam Bogdan.
David Wheater's block prevented Bellamy's shot troubling Bogdan while Henderson's long-range effort was comfortably collected by the goalkeeper.
Midway through the half Carroll had his first chance when Steven Gerrard picked him out with a crossfield pass, but his header was straight at Bogdan.
Just before the half-hour Rodriguez appealed for a penalty after the ball bounced up and appeared to hit Zat Knight's arm but referee Kevin Friend waved play on.
Bolton went straight down the other end and carved open Liverpool's defence for a second time.
Eagles again played a significant part, coming in off the right touchline to chip the ball over the centre-backs for Nigel Reo-Coker to stab home.
Carroll's first-time pass sent Bellamy running through but, coming under pressure, he took his shot early and Bodgan saved.
The Bolton goalkeeper was powerless to stop the Welshman's next effort, however, in the 37th minute as he was put through by Carroll's header from Reina's clearance and cleverly clipped the ball into the net.
In added time Gerrard forced Bogdan to turn his shot around the post while Reina batted away Martin Petrov's free-kick.
Just when Liverpool were looking to get back into the match they conceded a third five minutes into the second half.
Petrov's corner was headed back across goal by Wheater and Gretar Steinsson slid a shot inside the post.
Glen Johnson hacked Steinsson's cross behind as Bolton continued to create chances before Enrique was booked for bundling over Eagles as he tried to break away down the right.
With 25 minutes remaining Stewart Downing and Dirk Kuyt were sent on in place of Rodriguez and Charlie Adam to rescue the situation.
Davies' poor control in the penalty area gave Carroll half a chance but the striker could not keep his shot down.
Agger was closer with his long-range drive which clipped the top of the crossbar.
Carroll, without a league goal since October 29, continued to labour in front of goal, typified by his complete miskick from Downing's cut-back.
Liverpool's attacking in the closing stages became even more desperate but they rarely looked like threatening Bogdan.
While the win did wonders for Bolton's confidence, a haul of six points from their last seven league matches is beginning to point to more than just bad luck for Kenny Dalglish's side. (Less)
New Money for Young Men Part VI 0.5 ?JUDA WHO DA?
One of the twelve Apostles of (More) ?JUDA WHO DA?
One of the twelve Apostles of Jesus; he betrayed his master and delivered him up to the priests for judgment (Matt. x. 4; Mark iii. 19; Luke vi. 16). That Jesus should have shown so little foresight in the choice of an apostle naturally caused great perplexity to his followers; and consequently the Gospels present the facts of the betrayal as well as the character of Judas from partizan points of view and in different ways. According to Luke xxii. 3-5 (comp. John xiii. 27) Satan entered into him while he sat at the table, among the rest of the Apostles, to partake of the Passover meal, and he left to commune "with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray" Jesus, while they "covenanted to give him [Judas] money." In Mark xiv. 10-11 Satan is omitted; in Matt. xxvi. 15 the price of thirty pieces of silver is given with a view to the Christian interpretation of Zech. xi. 12 (comp. Matt. xxvii. 3-9 et seq.). Possibly the story that Judas was moved by avarice is a later invention. In fact, the tendency to make Judas the type of greed is manifested in John xii. 4-6, according to which passage he was a thief who misappropriated the money in the common treasury of which he had charge; therefore he objected to having fine ointment worth three hundred pence expended upon the anointing of the feet of Jesus by Mary instead of being deposited with the money reserved for the poor.
In all likelihood, Judas, being of the district of Judah, while the rest were all Galileans, was not impressed with the Messianic character claimed by Jesus, and therefore, merely to obtain immunity for himself, committed the cowardly act of betraying him to the soldiers and officers of the priests that came with swords and staves to seize him and his followers. He singled out Jesus by kissing him while greeting him as rabbi (John xviii. 1 et seq.); they then seized Jesus and brought him bound to Annas and Caiaphas the high priest (Matt. xxvi. 47 et seq., and par. pas.), while his disciples, including Peter, left their master to his destiny.
The Gospels, however, relate that Jesus knew beforehand that Judas would betray him, and accordingly announced it at the Passover meal in the very presence of Judas, pointing him out as the betrayer before he left the table and immediately before the betrayal took place (Matt. xxvi. 21 et seq., 46 et seq.; Mark xiv. 18 et seq., 42; Luke xxii. 21; John xiii. 21, xviii. 4).
