This tissue generates new blood in big bones. We call this tissue Bone Marrow. When there is a problem with the stem cells of the bone marrow or how they are developing, an individual develops a bone marrow disease.

2.In aplastic anemia, the bone marrow doesn't make red blood cells.
3.Infections like as tuberculosis, leading to a decrease in the production of blood cells and platelets.
4.Our genetics and environmental factors also sometimes can cause bone marrow diseases.
In a Bone marrow transplant (BMT) procedure the diseased or damaged bone marrow is replaced with healthy bone marrow. To replace the healthy bone marrow, disease bone marrow is destroyed by chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. The replacement marrow, if comes from the patient is called an autologous bone marrow transplant and if it is from an identical twin, it is termed a syngeneic transplant. If the marrow is from a donor (not an identical twin), the procedure is an allogeneic bone marrow transplant.
The first step is destruction of damaged bone marrow through chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy followed by the actual transplant. This process in which the bone marrow and abnormal cells are destroyed is also called marrow ablation (a preparative regime). This conditioning leads to doing away with the diseased cells and consequently making space for the marrow or peripheral stem cells to be transplanted. Depending upon the disease it is typically chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment. The down side is that it also leads to destruction of healthy cells and has many side effects such as extreme weakness, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These side effects may continue for several weeks.
In a simple outpatient procedure, a triple lumen, central venous catheter (a slender, hollow flexible tube) is surgically inserted into a large vein in the chest which is used to draw blood and also infuse chemotherapy and other medications as well as donor cells, blood product, fluids, and sometimes nutritional solutions. The central venous catheter usually stays in place for about six months after the bone marrow transplant.
Also to stimulate the patient's white blood cells, hormone-like medications called colony stimulating factors may be given before the transplant. The aim of these medications is to stimulate the white blood cells to multiply, mature, and function. With these medications the patient's white blood cells recover soon from chemotherapy and the risk of infection is greatly reduced.
