When I was 16 someone said to me by the name of Richie
I should write a book with what happened to me when I was
kidnapped by my father in 1981 and wanted by
the FBI for two years.
He said it would make a great story
and since that day when ever we meet me he would say don't forget me
when you make your millions.
Well I'll say! don't worry Richie I wont.
I've got the ball rolling you were right.
In 1991 or so, I started to write down on little pieces of paper
little things and some big that I could remember and kept them all in an envelope
and after a number of year sitting on my bedroom shelf.
I now and then thought of how Im going to take on this mammoth task.
I started to put the writing into a time time.
Getting maps and printing them out making a road map
of the journey me and my father took.
From the very first foot steps to the last.
So in the year 2000 I got in touch with a friend name of Noel Mc Que.
asking him about the writing formatting for a screenplay,
Noel was in a film college at the time,
thinking to my self he maybe able to help me understand the writing format
I was wishing.
Because I was not thinking of going to media collage for filming
at that time.
This process took some time and after 10 years yes 10 years
I had then completed the 9th draft and got it self published as a book.
In a screenplay format.
I was doing many other things in my life working and music media collage
and finding my independence.
In the late summer of 2012. two year after I had self published
the screenplay as a book.
I had the idea to put out an ad to find cast and crew
for a short from my book that I sell online.
After 3 weeks or so it started to all come together.
I held auditions for two days with the 45 actors that applied.
Only using in the end 6 of them.
Taking footage of the auditions so I could look back at them.
And took emails from crew and met the ones that I thought
would be right for this project.
I put a time frame on the filming shooting dates.
That had to be put forward dew to me having to let two
of the crew for personal reasons.
so the shooting dates were put forward to the 10th and 11th
of november.
So then it was on to the funding, I was looking at €600 or so.
to do this short.
It help two fundraisers and made €185 and that helped very much.
And the rest I put from my own pocket.
Doing all the production by myself and the story boards.
Location scouting.
I had to rearrange the original story dew to not having the funding
for the Train public transport and the Airport scenes for the Air Lingus plane.
After realizing it was out of my reach at this time in my life.
I looked into the Sea Ferry for a replacement and they said the same.
And contacted the a man that new my granddad about a yacht.
But no reply.
So I went a head with a Car as the replacement for the plain.
As the point of escape in the story.
So with all the production done and just to get to the shooting dates.
On the 10th and 11th of November.
My crew and actors got busy on location.
We spent a good two full days.
Moving over 5 locations to complete the short.
One location in house one the first day.
And 4 on the next outdoors.
Tootle film recorded 2 hours 20 seconds.
I was looking for about a ten 11 minute short.
And after editing it it looks just like that time scale.
Shay Doyle has contributed two songs.
And David O Byrne one song for the soundtrack.
I will be submitting this short into festivals in 2013 in Ireland
and then looking further a filed. England and the USA.
To get feedback and possible funding to take on more or the whole book.
I'm feeling that I would like to get more funding by my own means fundraising and my own money and privet investors and have one already.
To shoot as many scenes from the book and to build up as many of the sequences
as I can then it will be finished in my own ways and capabilities and with the help of others.
