KOSMOPOLITE ART TOUR 2011 After 10 memorable (More) KOSMOPOLITE ART TOUR 2011 After 10 memorable editions highlighting diversity, exchange and intercultural enrichment, Kosmopolite has become a major event and reference in the graffiti world acting as an ambassador for Street Art and Graffiti, ever reaching out to a wide and international audience. By taking root in urban reality, graffiti as a budding form of artistic expression and experimentation undeniably takes part in the challenging of our contemporary cities’ functional and dysfunctional processes. In 2011, from Jakarta to Sao Paulo, Graffiti takes center stage for this new edition of the Kosmo Art Tour. In Paris and Bagnolet, artists shall work hand in hand to allow each and every one of us to enjoy graffiti’s artistic wealth and diversity. With a novel collaboration between the Kosmopolite and Paris Hip Hop festivals, the Kosmo Art Tour 2011 inaugurates a new approach to cultural exchange and transmission both in France and throughout the world. With its rebellious but ever reaching out artists, Graffiti takes special care this year in extending its support to the victims of the Japanese Tsunami. An action inspired and led by the artists is therefore organized in favor of Japan. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In third episodes, graffiti has integrated the world of contemporary art by inviting itself into high places of the French and international cultural scenes. We may quote as references, such remarkable exhibitions as Tag at the Grand Palais (2006), Rue (Street) at the Cartier Foundation (2010), as well as the event Rue au Grand Palais (2006), which contributed in a big way in legitimizing the movement. Each of them drawing several tens of thousands of visitors, these shows have managed to garner a large and prescriptive audience. The Europa Graffiti exhibition seeks to question the relationship between graffiti and Street art. Via a panorama of the European scene, it reflects on the complementarities, oppositions and/or real or supposed correspondences between these two trends. Today, graffiti and Street Art seem to have erased the borders which used to drive them apart. These two urban artistic approaches have finally managed to build bridges and correspondences between them, thus broadening their creative perspectives. With 30 European emerging and confirmed artists present, Europa Graffiti represents the diversity and richness of graffiti and street art in Europe. The event also offers a link to the US though the presentation of works from several major artists having strongly influenced European creation. In parallel with an exhibition of works on canvas, Europa Graffiti shall also showcase the creation of a mural, original mirroring of the work of the graffiti and street artists, painted on the surrounding wall of the Carré Baudoin as well as the old RATP bus depot close by in Rue des Pyrénées. The public shall therefore be able to contemplate and enjoy the work of artists on two surfaces and in two different environments. Europa Graffiti thus raises the issue of a double mutation. Mutation of the surface on the one hand: from wall to canvas. And on the other hand, mutation of the working and exhibition context: from the street to the workshop, from the street to the art gallery.
