What is a drumline you ask?
A drumline is an American term for the percussion section of a marching band. However, as you will see, a drumline doesn't need to be with a band to make great music!
The Music Collection Drumline began as a percussion ensemble for the private students of Mr. Bryan Efford who started the group after some of his students expressed an interest in modern marching percussion and rudimental style drumming. Drawing on Mr. Efford's background in the cadet movement and CLB, the first group of five drummers began Saturday rehearsals in 2004.
Initially, the drumline practiced and performed on drum set snare drums and tom-toms, but now has a full compliment of modern marching drums including high-tension snare drums, multiple tenor drums and tonal bass drums.
The drumline's repertoire is made up of different marching patterns or 'cadences'. Each cadence is a unique piece of music and can be influenced by several different styles of music including rock, latin and jazz.
The eighteen current members of the Music Collection Drumline range in age from eleven to seventeen and some have been playing with the group for over six years.
The drumline performs several times a year at a wide variety of events including conventions, recitals, basketball games and Christmas parades in and around the metro St.John's area.
