Here is some things you need: WINRAR [or any other zip programs, i like winrar :P] You can download a free 40 days trial from this site: http://www.win-rar.com/download.html [you dont really have to pay after the trial, you'll only get a message everytime you open the program that tells you to pay after the trial.. yea.. free :3 ]The Sims 2 and some chocolate :3 Now, before you start downloading, make sure you only download things compatible with your game. Lets start with something simple, like downloading hair :3
1) www.xmsims.com has a lot of great hairstyles for you sims, lets download a random one ;P
- Go to the page with the hair you want

- Download one or more color files
[save them to a place you'll find them again, like your deskop ;P ]
2) Right-click and select exstract here; after that:
- Delete the read-me file
- Delete the winrar files things..

3) Go to EA games - The sims 2 - Downloads
- Put the files in the Downloads folder
And you're done ;P You'll find your hairstyle in your game, under the color you downloaded :)
