Canon PowerShot S95 Movie - 720p HD B&W / The… After doing a bunch of testing with the video (More) After doing a bunch of testing with the video capabilities of both the Canon S95 and T2i at one of my favourite locations, an abandoned estate soon to be demolished, I thought why not put the S95 to work as if I was doing a pro shoot in the film industry?
I couldn't help but do a video using this estate as my setting. This place spooks me a bit. It had been very windy all day, and by the time I got to this place it was getting late, so with the wind, darkness setting in and a lot of dark cold clouds, the setting lent itself to what amounted to a perfect scene out of a horror movie!
How on earth I even got myself inside, I'll never know. The house was full of noises, and going upstairs made the hair on my legs stand right up. I think I literally ran out when I was done.
Summary:
Yes the S95 lacks the finesse in clarity and depth that you can see in the glass attached to my Canon T2i, but it's size and ease of operation puts you in quick control without any complex setup that comes with each take using the DSLR.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how stable the S95 video was when mounted on my favorite Mofrottto 785B tripod as I carried it holding onto the two legs, while the third (fully extended) acted as a stabilizer. The video did not jar as I walked and really looked quite smooth for handheld and walking.
With some fore thought, the S95 could be used to create some interesting projects. Compact and light, it is a great compliment to the DSLR, and continues to surprise me with capabilities and results suitable for many applications.
