Swim with sea lions, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia - South Australia has some of the world's biggest playgrounds, including the outback (which is bigger than most European countries) and over 3000 kilometres (1875 miles) of coastline. The question is: what would you like to do?
Eyre Peninsula- In the wild water off Eyre Peninsula, swim with dolphins, sea lions and tuna. If you're feeling really brave cage-dive with great white sharks. Go canoeing among the dolphins at Port Adelaide. At Victor Harbor you can watch for whales as they make their annual migration from May to October.
Adelaide - In Adelaide you're close to some spectacular natural areas, including the Adelaide Hills. Hike 3.7 kilometres (12,000 feet) from Waterfall Gully to the top of Mount Lofty. Ride a mountain bike down the Eagle Mountain Bike Path. Want some engine power? Fly in a fast two-seater jet down the Fleurieu Peninsula coast...
Kangaroo Island - Kangaroo Island is about two hours from Adelaide and a "wild" adventure. Take a personalised 4WD tour and see secret places (including forests with koalas and beaches with kangaroos) on this huge island. Start exploring for yourself. Take a track through the massive Flinders Chase National Park. Go sand-boarding down Little Sahara's dunes or find a deserted beach.
Flinders Ranges and Outback - A journey into the outback is an adventure. When you're in the Flinders Ranges, set out to spot wildlife (best at dawn or dusk), climb Wilpena Pound, explore Aboriginal rock art sites and hike through steep sided gorges (stopping to rest at cool, shady waterholes).
Around towns like William Creek, Parachilna and Arkaroola you see ancient fossils, incredible views from isolated ridge tops and fabulous night skies. Go underground in the famous opal town of Coober Pedy. Get dirty "noodling" for your own precious stones.
